    Biking in Boston

At grade bike lines like vasser street tend to invite pedestrians to use them as a sidewalk. Nothing like zooming down the bike lane and nearly killing a kid.

Re: Driven By Customer 'Service' Parte Dos There is also under running third rail and third rail covers. These both lessen the chance of shock. I'd prefer them instead of overhead wires.

Where am I? The photo contest

I think I would still have gotten it. It's the elevators that gave it away. The shaft is open for the first 4 floors but closed on 5-6. Or something like that.

Re: Charles Place Cambridge So this construction would cover the MBTA substation behind the current building. Anyone know what the MBTA building opposite this site (across the busway) is used for?

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

Re: Green Line to Medford to start in 2011 Which is worse displacing three healthy businesses or "ruining" the view for the brickbottom residents? I feel that the state shouldn't bulldoze buildings when there is a perfectly good unused former rail yard (Yard 8).

    Longfellow Bridge update

With such low traffic volumes would one traffic lane in each direction be enough for auto capacity? It would allow a ton of of space for widened sidewalks and bike lanes.

    Route 128 Developments

The building in the 7th photo looks just like 300 Tech Sq. in Kendall. Useless overhang + bland architecture = winning design.

Silver Line - Phase III / BRT in Boston

I rode from SS to Black Falcon Sunday and the ride in the tunnel was unbearable. The concrete paving feels and looks like a washboard. You can't compare the speed or comfort of the bus to an underground trolley. Even with perfect construction the clearances of the tunnel don't allow for fast buses.

Seaport Neighborhood - Infill and Discussion

Re: South Boston Seaport I can't find a source but I'm pretty sure the silver line tunnels were built with future upgrades in mind. The clearances are more than generous for future LRV use.

    Longfellow Bridge update

Here is a dated (2006) presentation from mass highway showing some of the roadway and reconstruction alternatives. I'm especially intrigued with the lighting options based on the trolley poles that used to line the bridge...
