Re: Driven By Customer 'Service' Parte Dos I live on the 71. When the 73 runs with diesel buses only I'm hoping for more trackless trolleys on the 71. I've always been pissed off that the T replaced 40 of the old flyer trackless trolleys with only 24 of newer trackless trolleys. Service has...

Re: Driven By Customer 'Service' Parte Dos Dieseling of the 73 is going to suck especially if they increase headways.

MIT Expansion Plans | MIT/Kendall Square | Cambridge

MIT's new chiller is now clad with silver and terracotta colored alucobond! I think it looks more like a weird spaceship now.

This isn't a great photo but it shows the bridge swinging open.

    Boston Harbor Flood Protection Projects

Most of the state is saved in my plan! Not sure where we'll get the building material for this. Oh and the bay will more than likely turn into a cesspool.

    MBTA Construction Projects

Re: T construction news I'm not sure what the old North Station elevators were like but I read in one of the MBTA's planning documents that they require glass elevators for all new construction. The reasons being security and visibility.

^It's a shame the Buran (Soviet equivalent to the space shuttle) only flew once. I think the first photo is of the collapsed hanger that destroyed the only shuttle to have flown.

Silver Line - Phase III / BRT in Boston

The upward bulging is the worst part. It feels like the bus is going over a washboard.

The ship in the last photo is apparently "kind of a big deal." Here is a link to a globe article about Lightship Nantucket: Oldest US lightship comes home to Boston

    Northeastern to Build in Burlington

Interesting fact: Mary Cummings Park, adjacent to the NEU campus, is owned by the City of Boston (well in trust for the city).

MBTA Red Line / Blue Line Connector

The preferred build option has a significant slope down from bowdion station (then demolished) to get under the Charles/MGH supports. I think this would preclude an intermediate station.

    Marine Week

This was a great exposition. If you're interested in military technology this is a must see. I do agree that there should be more "safety" involved with the firearms display. I spoke with a Marine from a howitzer unit who said the week will culminate with an exercise (landing demonstration) at...

    Boston Metro Water Catastrophe

The water is still coming from Quabbin and is treated in Marlborough. The problem is that the MWRA is using the Sudburry Aqueduct. The Sudburry Aqueduct begins at the Sudburry Reservoir and is only used in emergencies. The water then flows to the Chestnut Hill Reservoir and the Spot Pond...

    Boston Metro Water Catastrophe

The local star market in Cambridge is out of bottled water and seltzer water (go figure)...I picked up a case of beer to get me through the catastrophe. It irks me that people are stocking up on bottled water when boiling treats the water just fine.

    Cape Wind Farm

Here is an interesting table from the US Energy Information Administration about the leveled cost of new power sources*. I hadn't realized that the costs of offshore wind power are that significantly higher than conventional power sources. This table doesn't take into account negative...
