    Manchester Infill & Small Developments

Frank, why is Bedford the suburb of Manchester that is so wealthy? I don't really see anything special about the town's LACK of scenic views, appealing downtown (Bedford really doesnt have a downtown), or a diverse yet elitism population. There are suburbs of Boston (Winchester and Brookline)...

    Manchester Infill & Small Developments

Patrick you are so right regarding walkablity. I live in Manchester, NH and we are currently looking to buy a home in the city. In Manchester the ghetto/hood areas of the city are in maybe 1/4 of the city. But the "sketchy" or "ghetto" sections of Manch. are right off Elm street and of course...

Portland, ME - New Construction Continued

I stayed at the Westin in Waltham, MA last year for a wedding which was held there. The atmosphere in the conference/bar area was nice, but I wasnt over all impressed with the facitility as far as comfort. The walls were paper thin! We had some loud older gentleman next door who kept on...

    Providence developments

Your telling me they couldn't find another spot in Providence to build this McMansion of mixed development? Thayer St. in Providence is probably the best area with urban character and pedestrian foot/bike traffic besides Federal Hill in the city of Providence.

    Thompson's Point, Portland

I think the Red Claws were going to open the arena for the fall of 2013 if they were able to break ground this spring. Either way the arena will add another option for band tours, events, conferences, ect. I hear the America East Conference (the DI conference where UNH, UVM, and UMAINE play in)...

Portland, ME - New Construction Continued

Ahh...yes you are right about referring to the "down east" part of Maine. My Connecticut roots show their true colors when I am talking about Maine. Patrick, I was in St.Louis a few years ago and I swear Portland has more pedestrain traffic. Downtown St.Louis reminds me of Hartford but with...

Portland, ME - New Construction Continued

Patrick, once they get some jobs in the Portland area then the city would be really lively. I read Portland is trying to get some start-up Biotech companies to move to the downtown area. This would really help the lower the unemployment rate and add some skilled labor to the "down east" region...

    Manchester Infill & Small Developments

Portland's downtown definitly has more commerce and "urban feel" than Manchester, but part of it is Portland is a seaport city. Manchester is a huge Mill town, very similar to Lowell and Worcester, MA. With that said, Manchester has come a long way with making Elm Street feel like a true, clean...

    Eastern Waterfront

Is that where the new burger chain joint is going? The name escapes me, not smash burger or five guys....maybe elevation burger? Just a guess...

Portland, ME - New Construction Continued

Patrick...congratulations and I know the city of Portland has just got a great guy in every sense of the word when it comes to working in urban planning. The best of luck to you!

    Lynn Waterfront Redevelopment

I used to work in Lynn and I know they plan on developing the area near the GE Plant into commerical property. I am not sure if that area was considered a brownfield/superfund site. The area was used as a toxic dump stop for all the jet engines/chemicals left overs for years. I am excited to...

    Manchester Infill & Small Developments

I know the Common man restaurant chain was looking at one of the mill buildings to open their first Manchester location. This would be a great addition to the area.

    Portland - Civic Center

It would be great if they would add atleast another 1,000 seats to the arena so they can compete with Manchester for some of the major concerts. Seems very short sighted not to have a capacity expansion when renovating this outdated arena. I agree with Patrick, build the arena in the Bayside...

    Manchester Infill & Small Developments

I read a few years back that the City of Manchester wanted to label itself a "Destination City." This would include weekend packages for daytrippers to stay overnight in the downtown hotels. The article also mentioned how bar times would be extended to 3am on Friday and Saturdays. Also, I know...

    Portland's Mayor

Patrick great point about this Rathband character. Portland, ME is not Portland, OR or Houston, TX when it comes prodevelopment. Sounds like Rathband belongs in some stuffy and phoney college town pontificating about globalization.

    "Downtown UCONN" Development

For any of you that have been to Storrs, CT, home of the University of UCONN you may know it lacks an urban or even village center for students/residents to enjoy. The state and town of Mansfield have had this project in the works for years, it is nice to see it getting off the ground finally...

Old Mobil Station On Brighton Ave.

The website www.thebollard.com has some pretty funny comments on this site. Its under the "My dump" section. Not a bad website either for a few good dry laughs.

    Thompson's Point, Portland

Do you think the Thompsons Point arena could eventually be expanded? I know there is talk of Having the America East Basketball tournament in Portland. Although UMaine is currently renovating Alfond Arena and next to get renovated is Memorial Gym in Orono.

    Portland - Civic Center

Corey, I agree with you on the improvements. I think this project is very short sighted and the arena will need to be replaced in another 15-20 years since other arenas of the same size and shape have been built/being built within a couple hours of Portland. Also this arena should be privately...

    Thompson's Point, Portland

I wonder if the Cumberland County Civic Plans fall through, that Thompson's point might jump on board with adding an ice sheet for hockey and perhaps increase the seating capacity? Glad to hear they have updated the master plan and I think this development will have a positive impact on this...
