Seaport Square (Formerly McCourt Seaport Parcels)

There is a new "retail incubator" space in the Seaport, but it looks more like a curated pop-up shop than an actual small business development program to open local stores: https://www.itsfornow.com/our-store/

Seaport Square (Formerly McCourt Seaport Parcels)

I'm glad this thread is going off the rails since the other one on-topic was closed. The Globe really missed the boat by focusing on race rather than economics. The BRA allowing the developers to do "off-site" affordable housing really reeks of classism. And it creates affordable units in...

    Parcel P-12 | 286-290 Tremont St | Chinatown

Re: Parcel P-12 | Chinatown I haven't been able to find a paper copy of the original (I think it may have been destroyed in the BPL flood over a decade ago), but there was a "Midtown Cultural District Plan" developed in 1988 by the BRA. Much of it was codified in Article 38 of the city's...

Jackson Square Infill and Small Developments

Jamaica Plain News is reporting that the City is contributing $2M toward the construction of the BPDA-approved Jackson Square Recreation Center, a $30M indoor sports facility which will eventually get built at the corner of Columbus Ave and Ritchie St...

Jackson Square Infill and Small Developments

These sites have always been challenged by the parking requirements, the desire for park space, and the complexity of using public funds for the affordable units. They seem to be doing a good job in balancing these elements and actually building something! It still has a multi-use path along...

One Post Office Square Makeover and Expansion | Financial District

Meh. They want to get higher rents so they're recladding. Glad to hear the lobby will get some activity, especially since it's right next door to the hotel. It's been nice to see these older buildings in the neighborhood getting refreshed by the big corporate developers over the past decade.

    Pedestrian Only Zones

Closing a street to cars is not the same as creating a pedestrian-friendly environment where people will want to linger. The photo in the Globe article shows how they completely missed the mark. To make it successful it should have had programmed events, pretty things like planters, nice...

    Quincy Center Redevelopment

The MA legislature doesn't allow towns/cities to impose their own taxes. They have to submit "home rule" petitioned articles for passage at the state level. Lately the legislature hasn't been passing revenue-related home rule petitions, though. Provincetown, for example, for many years has...

    Biking in Boston

There are dozens of pavement colors and paver options that they could have used. It doesn't take a lot of imagination to do something more attractive than black asphalt for a signature bikeway. I also read somewhere that they are using porous asphalt for this project, which is expensive and...

Sad that it's just black asphalt. Such as missed opportunity to do something more attractive.

Biking the Boston 'Burbs (Trails, MDC, & Towns beyond Hubway area)

Has anyone here heard of VBikes? Apparently they're a Dallas-based stationless bike rental company that's looking to open in some of the non-Hubway towns and out on Cape Cod. I'm wondering if any MA towns have put in place regulations for these rental schemes, since otherwise it sounds like...

    Biking in Boston

I believe the SW Corridor is actually DCR-managed, so good luck getting anything done. The most effective approach would probably be a DIY sidewalk art project and some phone calls to the media.

The Harlo (née Skanska Fenway Project (Burger King))| 1350 Boylston Street | Fenway

Re: The Harlo (née Skanska Fenway Project (Burger King))| 1350 Boylston Street | Fenw I went to the Boylston redesign meetings as well and it was a lot of talk about standardizing the streetscape materials and adding bike lanes. The process petered out around 2011 after focusing on redesigning...

Seaport Square (Formerly McCourt Seaport Parcels)

It has been for decades, that's nothing new. The poor management of the pedestrian realm with a "oh it will be better when it's done" attitude has been going on for just as long. They still haven't put any benches on the Seaport Blvd bridge, and that was in the plan from before it was built.
