    The New Retail Thread

Looks like Revelator Coffee of Alabama has acquired Wired Puppy Specialty Coffee & Teas locations in both Boston (Newbury St.) and Provincetown (Commercial St.). They've posted a General Manager job description for the Boston location here: https://www.indeed.com/viewjob?jk=0d5be73f368dd5b2...

    Provincetown Developments

It's a public pay parking lot that is owned by the same company as the CVS parcel. It's unclear whether CVS is leasing the building or purchasing it at this point.

    Provincetown Developments

CVS Pharmacy has submitted a proposal to the town's Historic District Commission for design review. They are looking to open at the location of the Riley's T-shirt shop at 132 Bradford Street, right in the center of town... HDC application...

    Biking in Boston

That's a nice sentiment but the green bike pavement standard that has been adopted in the US makes this very difficult. No one uses green asphalt, and all that green paint is a maintenance nightmare. It may be time to abandon green altogether. There are also ADA issues with texture changes...

    Biking in Boston

Same problem on sections of the SW Corridor bike path -- people walk on it because it's shaded and pleasant compared to the nasty narrow sidewalk along the street with all the car traffic. It's *very* strange here that they put the bike path on the inside and the pedestrians on the outside...

Copley Place Expansion and Tower | Back Bay

I was glad when they removed the waterfalls at the Copley Sq escalators years ago -- it always smelled like a filthy fish tank over there. Like so many things, it was nice when it first opened but it didn't really work long term.

The Residences at Forest Hills | 3694 Washington Street | Jamaica Plain

The program and site plan look reasonable, but that Miami Vice/faux pomo 1990s facade is really unpleasant. ICON usually does better work than this! Nice to see they're proposing a 1:1 ratio of covered bike parking to housing units and a "bicycle work room" for residents on the Arborway side of...

Our Lady of Good Voyage | Seaport Sq Parcel H | 55 - 57 Seaport Blvd | Seaport

Why is there a City Map kiosk in the median strip??? Another example of the failure of the public realm planning for the Seaport...

Biking the Boston 'Burbs (Trails, MDC, & Towns beyond Hubway area)

That's mostly because the Boston Metropolitan Area Planning Council has been doing a lot of technical assistance for towns in its region to adopt Complete Streets policies... http://www.mapc.org/complete-streets-roll Out here on Cape Cod, we've had had no support from the Cape Cod Commission to...

Connected/Automated vehicles and infrastructure in Boston

I certainly hope there will be some way for local municipalities to tell these autonomous cars that they are not allowed on local streets. If they can't operate on winding, weird, narrow, 17th-century roads, they shouldn't operate there. Could you imagine trying to take one of these things down...

The Ipswich | 2 Charlesgate West | Fenway

Interesting that they are using elevators to get the cars to the parking floors. But disappointed that they are trying to do 50% of their affordable units off-site. The whole point of inclusionary development is to include the units in the development. Should be fun to see what the neighborhood...

Dorm Tower @ Emerson College | 1-3 Boylston Place | Downtown

At least it's not another orange dorm tower -- or has the BRA reserved that color scheme for Huntington Ave.?

    Closing Newbury Street to cars

It sounds like they're closing it to bicycles as well... anyone know if that's the case? I'm not going to be able to make it over there today, but I'd be interested to hear how they staffed the closing points. Are there traffic cops at every intersection like they have on St Catherine in Montreal?

Renovations to BPL's Johnson Wing | Back Bay

No, everything with the BPL address on it from before about 2003 has the 666 Boylston address.

Renovations to BPL's Johnson Wing | Back Bay

When did the BPL change its street address? It used to be 666 Boylston St., which was beloved by conspiracy theorists, and now it says 700 over the new doors.

Seaport Memorial Park | Parcel F @ Seaport Square | Seaport

Did you know that you don't need to wait years for tree cover? Post Office Square park has a number of mature specimen trees that are on "permanent loan" from the Arnold Arboretum. That's one of the things that make it a nice place. It even has parking ramps for the garage that are so well...

Do you still hate the seaport?

As an office park it's fine, but as a city neighborhood it's dreadful. No school, no library, no active parks for children (or adults). The public realm is dreary, uninspired, and feels like corporate function space. Transportation planning for the area was half-baked from the beginning, and...

    Biking in Boston

Of course we should! They would never do this with a car lane!
