Caffe Nero just got city approval for its second US location... at 733 Centre St in Jamaica Plain.

Re: New Brighton Landing | New Balance Complex
Boston actually owns a lot of the utility poles in the city. A number of years ago my neighborhood association in JP looked at what it would cost to underground the overhead utilities and the city told us it cost about $3,000 a linear foot! That...
Any idea what the unidentified grey building is in the middle of the Beth Israel campus? The Globe doesn't ID it in the article.
Edit: I checked the BRA web site and they don't list anything for Beth Israel under "board approved".
These are the same style ADA ramps that the folks in Beacon Hill have been arguing against. It looks like the point is to just get it done quickly and cheaply.
I'd rather see the grade separation between the street and sidewalk eliminated completely. There is an argument to keep the curbs for...
This is a really nice proposal. I don't get the "skywalk," though. The article doesn't explain why it's needed.

Re: Green Line to Medford to start in 2011
This is what I was thinking. I don't expect climate controlled platforms, but some kind of enclosure to block the wind/rain/snow seems reasonable to me. Science Park has walls, doesn't it?
Re: Green Line to Medford to start in 2011
Why aren't the platforms enclosed? Would it be so cost prohibitive to actually shelter waiting passengers from the elements?
I haven't heard of any plans recently, but that site (The Midtown Hotel) is immediately adjacent to the the St Botolph Street Architectural Conservation District. Getting anything tall there will be a challenge, which is probably why the hotel has remained for so long.
Re: Garden Garage Towers (Basketball City) | 35 Lomasney Way | West End
The last time I was at the West End Museum I was told that the owner wouldn't sell and the residents refused to move, so the building was never demolished. Its address is 42 Lomasney Way.
Sounds like a fantastic project, but it's right on the boundary of the Mission Hill Triangle Architectural Conservation District, so there will likely be a lot of opposition to something that tall.
Over the years the Mission Hill activists have been pretty successful in stopping Longwood...
I was wondering if this is going to have a roof deck on the podium and found these renders at the Copley-Wolff web site. Anyone know if this will be open to the public? It would be a great vantage point for taking photos of the development across the street :)
It's going to take some major political will on the Mayor's part to make any substantive changes to zoning to allow larger student housing complexes and denser, carless residential development.
Focusing on the Main Streets districts where there is already transit and retail would enable some...
Re: Bartlett Yards
It looks like the stairs and promenade didn't make it into the version that's shown in the PNF. I think they were trying to compensate for both the grade change (it increases by 35 ft at that side of the lot) and for the resulting lack of through-streets. The plan in the PNF...
Re: Bartlett Yards
It looks like they have a couple of grade changes that drove the design. They call it TOD in the description but there sure is an awful lot of surface parking and parking access roads.
Nuestra's web site has links to lots of info and articles about the project...
Strangely, neither Fenway Park nor TD Garden are mentioned as potential venues.
And putting beach volleyball on the parade grounds at the Common just makes me cringe -- don't we have sandy beaches somewhere that are suitable?
That building is Jackson Commons. In total it's 37 apartments, a "community learning center", office space for Urban Edge, and one retail space.
The brick building they're restoring is the Coleman-Webb Building. About $800k of historic preservation tax credits went into making this development...
