Winthrop Center | 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

Re: 111 Federal St. | Formerly Trans National Place (Winthrop Square) Part 2 Hmm...yep, not iconic or beautiful in isolation but not all that bad on a tall building seen from afar, I think. Of course it's all subjective, but I would definitely prefer something like this (not this, but some...

Boylston West @ Fenway Triangle (Van Ness) | 1325 Boylston Street | Fenway

God, it seems like Sephora is taking over the world! Everywhere I travel these days it seems like Sephora is opening mega-stores. Does the world need this much eyeliner? Apparently so...

Winthrop Center | 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

Re: 111 Federal St. | Formerly Trans National Place (Winthrop Square) Part 2 I just noted it as a building (with an easy reference on this page) with what I consider a distinctive crown that didn't involve a spire. Don't know the height--that wasn't my point.

Winthrop Center | 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

Re: 111 Federal St. | Formerly Trans National Place (Winthrop Square) Part 2 I don't think a 700-foot tower has to have a spire to look distinctive. I like the building to the left of the Willis Tower in the photo stick n move posted. Interesting crowns can take many forms and in Boston an...

Winthrop Center | 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

Re: 111 Federal St. | Formerly Trans National Place (Winthrop Square) Part 2 I understand your point, but I disagree. I don't think the height requires lack of imagination. I also get that Boston is not about pushing any envelopes (which may be good) but I don't find much cause for excitement.

Winthrop Center | 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

Re: 111 Federal St. | Formerly Trans National Place (Winthrop Square) Part 2 I know a lot of folks in the forum think the Millennium Tower is iconic, so it comes as no surprise that some of them would also think this is iconic. Either building on its own is inoffensive--no need for hyperbole...

I'm embarrassed at how excited I am about this.

    Hancock Lighting

I seem to recall that it is frequently lit in different colors.

    Hancock Lighting

I think it looks much classier with the natural lighting of the sunset.

    Fenway Infill and Small Developments

I went by the Emerald Necklace HQ and asked if they were planning on reorienting the benches away from overlooking The Fenway traffic so they overlook the Muddy instead. The answer was "good question." But then the very nice woman there--Kate--said that the chain-link fence that is currently...

    Rose Kennedy Greenway

I think that neither Commonwealth or Greenway have the sense of "pedestrian thoroughfare" that Ramblas has. Too many interruptions by cross streets. I understand why that's the case (and I like both C and G), but it's unfortunate as it really impinges on their openness.

Renovations to BPL's Johnson Wing | Back Bay

Wandered around the new wing today. Wow. Just wow. This project has not disappointed; it really looks like the major cultural resource it is. They've opened up the interior spaces in a very dramatic way with lots of seating around the peripheries looking out onto the streets on 3 sides. The main...

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

I guess we should be grateful for any plan to move forward, but when I think of other cities with international aspirations and the prioritization of quality transit on one hand and the very bare bones nature of the GLX on the other it makes me marvel at how well politicians have managed-down...

Boston Properties Office Tower | 888 Boylston Street | Back Bay

Yeah, I think we should keep the idea of "fun" in mind--not silliness, but quirkiness that engages the eye and creates an interesting/distinctive space. I'm equally loving the BPL exterior renovation as the suspended lighting is going to add interest and the recharging "counter" (that's what I...

Boston Properties Office Tower | 888 Boylston Street | Back Bay

Not sure what point you are making... "This looks like 888 Bolyston" (yes, it is a building and, yes, it has unfortunate windmills) or "Here is an ugly building that is not a glassy box so...um... this is what Bahrain looks like."?

Boston Properties Office Tower | 888 Boylston Street | Back Bay

Yep, we've established that everyone can have their own opinion. I think we've also established that this building is cacophony/mash-up/amalgam of different elements. Some people hate it precisely for that (the level of nit-picking is almost comic) but I think it creates a unique space...

Boston Properties Office Tower | 888 Boylston Street | Back Bay

Definitely one of the most engaging/least boring buildings of the last five years. It creates a sense of place we don't see very often.

Seaport Neighborhood - Infill and Discussion

Re: Innovation Dist. / South Boston Seaport I'm sure the Beacon Hill-ites were appalled when that crappy McNeighborhood was built on swampland in the Back Bay.

When did that happen?? I'm sure I had bacon in a SG salad in DC a couple weeks ago. Though it would pain me, I'd still like them.
