General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

I wonder how absenteeism was reduced by almost a third...carrots? Sticks? Reminding people that if they aren't sick, they should show up for work?

    Gov't Center Station Rebuild

I hope you're right and at the very least they clean the tile, but really, that tile looks like low-end crap. If cleaned, it will look like cleaned low-end crap. Seems a bit penny-wise, pound-foolish. The Arlington tile isn't fancy but looks respectable (looks like semi-matte porcelain rather...

    Gov't Center Station Rebuild

Seems odd that on a multi-million dollar project that they wouldn't replace the most visually-impactful-yet-relatively-inexpensive element with something along the lines of Arlington.

Northeastern University - Institutional Master Plan

I didn't mean to suggest that this building incorporate retail--of course it is an academic building. I was suggesting that this area could use some retail though I didn't say that clearly.

Northeastern University - Institutional Master Plan

Although this is kind of a transitional space between a campus and the community. Not advocating for more strip-malled crap, but I don't see anything wrong with some "collegiate" retail (bookstores, gallery space, cafes, etc.) that might also appeal to commuters using Ruggles.

    Rose Kennedy Greenway

These were at the Hirschorn in DC a couple years ago; wonderful sculptures (not very edgy, but the craftsmanship is awe-inspiring). It's great to have rotating exhibits such as this, but I wish we could land some more quality permanent installations.

    Gov't Center Station Rebuild

No dog in this fight, but in fairness, I don't think eliminating columns is about freeing up square footage that the columns displace--I think it frees up a lot more space in terms of sight-lines, sense of appropriate social proximity, freedom of movement, etc.

City Hall Plaza Revamp | Government Center

Re: Offical City Hall Plaza Proposals Also, the Eye is sited along the Thames with a sweeping view of London--there's lots of other places in Boston where you could get a decent view of the city and Harbor (near Aquarium, points along the Greenway, etc.) but on the CH Plaza it will just be a...

City Hall Plaza Revamp | Government Center

Re: Government Center Redesign I like the 40' "BOSTON" sign. Good for tourists who might not know where they are.

30 Dalton St. Residences | Back Bay

The top is definitely blocky and awkward.

Logan Airport Flights and Airlines Discussion

I know renderings are meant to be impressionistic, but that looks a bit like the Eschelman sculpture that hung over the Greenway--a variation on that would be a nice idea for the new terminal.

    Millennium Tower (Filene's) | 426 Washington Street | Downtown

I think 888 should get more love than it does; it's not amazing, it could stand to be 150' taller and the windmills are gimmicky, but it fits its context so beautifully and cleanly. It has a presence. I don't know why I love it but I do. I think MT will do great things at street level for DTX...

    Millennium Tower (Filene's) | 426 Washington Street | Downtown

Yes, I think "bland" is the word--not a terrible building but when we get so few opportunities for something on this scale this is the best we can do? I've been interested to see all the scorn poured on 888 Boylston and all the love MT gets; feels like being in some parallel universe where up is...

Seaport Square (Formerly McCourt Seaport Parcels)

In my one experience at the Boylston branch, it seemed like a decent coffee shop (like a Starbucks that serves Peets) with (off to the side) a banking desk where a couple advisors are available--the banking aspects are clearly taking a back seat in terms of real estate and vibe. Nothing...

The Hub on Causeway (née TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End

"North Hub" in anticipation of there being a "South Hub" coalescing around South Station at some point? I like the idea of keeping "Hub" in the name to reflect the traditional Boston conceit.

Four Seasons Tower @ CSC | 1 Dalton Street | Back Bay

I'm not sure it matters if if owners are wealthy Chinese rather than wealthy Americans (neither are going to be inviting me 'round for drinks). I think it contributes to our cosmopolitanness (imagine that's a word) and, given that increased sinoization (imagine that's word) is inevitable in...

The Hub on Causeway (née TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End

Re: The Boston Garden (TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End Nice idea. Maybe a bit too busy with the real-time CR/R/G/B/O + the NS Schedule + the Google traffic idea simultaneously (or maybe that's not what you're suggesting). I think the CR/R/G/B/O real-time location of trains...
