30 Dalton St. Residences | Back Bay

In these photos the metallic panels really catch the sun and have such a great brightness to them. It's too bad that from most other angles, the building looks flatly grey and even dark grey.

Northeastern University - Institutional Master Plan

I think the same problem exists with the nice new academic buildings along Huntington--with no ground activation some of the best new buildings in Boston fail to have the impact they could on their neighboring community.

Yes, a good example of quality even if we might have many quibbles.

The Hub on Causeway (née TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End

Re: The Boston Garden (TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End They clearly have the "glass boxiness" in common, but I think 888 Boylston seems more impactful (size notwithstanding) because it packs more interesting elements/details in a smaller space.

Boston Properties Office Tower | 888 Boylston Street | Back Bay

I came out from the mall onto Boylston through here today: really creates a kind of "grand entrance" into Back Bay. Once the 888 building and plaza gets occupied, this is going to be a very dramatic vantage point from which to view Boylston. Well done.

The Hub on Causeway (née TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End

Re: The Boston Garden (TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End It is exciting. ArcLight is a genuinely different product--they show a mix of art house and mainstream movies and are very upscale. They say cinemas don't make money on the films but on the popcorn--ArcLight's model takes...

Twenty Two Liberty @ Fan Pier | 22 Liberty Drive - Parcel C | Seaport

I think you mean "paraphrase" (but full marks for creativity) I think you want me to check my comprehension. My grammar's not bad (though I often end sentences in prepositions. I think it would be wrong not to.) I thought the statement was not so much obvious but mistaken if s/he thinks...

    The New Retail Thread

Finally, someone figured out that all women want is a really good steak (and, apparently, to dress up for other women wanting really good steaks).

Twenty Two Liberty @ Fan Pier | 22 Liberty Drive - Parcel C | Seaport

Hmm. Did you find anything in the rest of the sentence (or indeed the entire post) that suggests this was taken out of context? This brief excerpt captured DZH22's sentiment very well, I thought. DZH22 thinks its unfair that rich people have the means of investing and becoming richer that are...

    The New Retail Thread

Maybe they can extend Capital One's brilliant idea and consolidate banks, Starbucks and CVSes and free up 40% of Boston's retail space.

The Hub on Causeway (née TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End

Re: The Boston Garden (TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End +1 My sentiments exactly--better than the earlier renderings but nothing amazing. Like the MT, its potential for street activation seems its strong suit.

The Hub on Causeway (née TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End

Re: The Boston Garden (TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End God, what I wouldn't give for a hint of Dubai... Guess we'll have to wait for the West Congress Garage to have something that doesn't look like a box on a box.

Massachusetts College of Art and Design - Center for Design+Media | Fenway

Very nice building! Not apropos of this building specifically, but more about this stretch of Huntington, it's too bad that retail and/or public performance space isn't happening in any form. This end of the so-called Avenue of the Arts is pretty much an academic wasteland of nice-if-sterile...

    Downtown Crossing/Financial District | Discussion

I popped in as well. Pleasant place and pleasant guy on duty, but they don't have their charcuterie section stocked yet (which is what the real draw for me will be--can't find decent paté in Boston to save my life). Although the display of wines is great, selection is surprisingly limited. I...

Logan Airport Flights and Airlines Discussion

I know it's been discussed frequently in this forum with a lot of solid arguments against it, but I have to think a Boston-Brazil route (GIG or GRU) has to be in the cards soon. US carriers are developing ever-closer ties to (and sizable ownership stakes in) Brazilian carriers such as TAM, Gol...

Boston Properties Office Tower | 888 Boylston Street | Back Bay

This is turning out to be one of the more attractive buildings under construction. Staid but with a bit of imagination and enough asymmetries to engage the eye. I worry the turbines will be a bit gimmicky, however.

Renovations to BPL's Johnson Wing | Back Bay

I always thought the Johnson Wing was a worthy (almost ideal) complement to the McKim--spare, elegant proportions that extend the monumentality of the McKim without competing with it in the least. Now that the bunker elements are removed, I think this is truly a beautiful "win" for Boston. The...
