I-90 Interchange Improvement Project & West Station | Allston

Renders lie. I'm quite confident this new pedestrian bridge over 12 lanes of traffic will include fencing in addition to guardrails, but they didn't want to throw a chainlink fence in the render. (This discrepancy is probably the source of confusion here).

The biggest disappointment for me is that the renders seemed to show a facade with a lot of texture, whereas it looks super flat in these pictures. Have not seen it with cladding in person yet tho.

Industrial National Trust (Superman Building) | Downtown | Providence

A lot of the state does seem pretty allergic to public subsidy here. Who woulda thunk that Curt Schilling might indirectly cause the Superman building's demise

Industrial National Trust (Superman Building) | Downtown | Providence

I'm confused as to where the discrepancy is coming from between the 450 units mentioned in the Globe and GoLocalProv pieces and the 285 units mentioned in the GoLocalProv headline.

Middlesex County Courthouse Redevelopment | 40 Thorndike St | East Cambridge

Not to derail too much but… I live right next to those new towers in North Brooklyn, in a much shorter pre-war walk-up. Before the towers were built, almost all of their sites were industrial-zoned; decaying lots that literally walled off the neighborhood from the river. Now they’re residential...

It's surely not as visually interesting as most of his designs, but it subtly reminds me of Louis Kahn? Hope I'm not inciting anything with that comparison 😁

@xec never said that travel is bad. Global tourism is not new, but in many places, it has exploded with the cheaper and cheaper airfares (see Japan's tourism growth in the past decade in table 1.2). Some places are capable of absorbing huge numbers of tourists. I live in NYC, the most...

Wow yea, @DZH22, you might've accomplished locating Boston's single least flattering angle (great photos regardless!). If you showed me that first one out of context, I'd guess former Soviet bloc or central Asia at first glance.

I think even those espousing the virtues of the existing structure (myself included), would not characterize its design as "timeless". But it's exactly because it does look dated, because it's so "of an era", that some of us are drawn to it. Whether someone likes this particular Googie aesthetic...
