Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

Yeah, those are monitoring wells. The surrounding area shouldn't be caving in, unless the well shafts are cracked.

That's a precast drain manhole. Standard 10" slab top. Lift up the plywood and you'll see the opening for the casting to be installed on top.

    General Infrastructure

I have copies of these in my office. I needed to recreate some Commuter Rail wayfinder signs for a roadway project was I working on and my contact at the T physically mailed me a copy of the 77 standards. Couldn't have been nicer to deal with.

I-90 Interchange Improvement Project & West Station | Allston

This is incorrect. A reduction in travel lanes is simply a reduction in roadway capacity. To reduce traffic volumes, you need to create a reason for an overall reduction - additional public transportation options, increased numbers of people working from home, shifts in peak hour volumes, etc...

Regional Rail (RUR) & North-South Rail Link (NSRL)

This. It may not be the selling point we need it to be, but it's the one that resonates easiest with the general public. And that's who you need to rally support with to get this thing done.

I-90 Interchange Improvement Project & West Station | Allston

This is what I've been advocating. We could take this opportunity to create something architecturally spectacular to cantilever a multi-use pathway out over the riverbank, which undoubtedly would be cheaper to build and maintain than a new viaduct for vehicles. A new viaduct makes zero sense...

    Suburban Complete Streets

When you're designing with Civil3D, the extension of the roadway beyond vehicular travel lanes is the shoulder. When you deal with MassDOT, the crucial consideration is for bicycle accommodation. Don't get lost in the semantics here. With GreenDOT and Complete Streets, there is a paradigm shift...

What was Boston like before GPS?

If you're like me, you had an institutional knowledge of the main travel ways from walking all over the city. Then, in the 90's, you'd literally print out a map via MapQuest.

    Suburban Complete Streets

Everything about this is completely unrealistic. You're not going to reduce vehicle width. That's just a non-starter. 10' lanes work for residential neighborhoods, but once you start dealing with collectors and arterials, it's not ideal. And it's not just the AASHTO green book that we, as...

    Suburban Complete Streets

Yes, but no. If you're thinking of the stretch from the Northshore Mall through Middleton, that's two lanes in each direction with a TWLTL. It's incredibly wide and has incredibly signal density to manage it all. The three lane configuration with shoulder bicycle accommodation is decidedly more...

    Suburban Complete Streets

And the near complete lack of a shoulder (>= 1') made winter driving that much more of a white knuckle experience.

    Suburban Complete Streets

If you had dedicated left turn lanes, and your traffic volumes were small, you could get away with a 10' turn lane. But a two-way left turn lane (TWLTL in MUTCD parlance) mandates an absolute minimum of 11' of width and the state prefers 14'.

COVID-19 Impacts on Logan, MBTA, and Boston travel and tourism

FWIW, I was supposed to fly Delta BOS->AMS last night and had paid for comfort+ on the outbound leg. I held off cancelling the flight, as I knew I'd get my fares banked, but the upgrade cost was non-refundable. Waited until a couple of days before to checkup on the flight status and sure...

New Red and Orange Line Cars

Not for nothing, but you really need to step back a bit and breathe. Yes, there are prolonged delays and yes, the trains keep getting taken out of service. But, as others have said, this is an all-new design and things need to be shaken out. Better now up front than later down the line. And...

MBTA "Transformation" (Green Line, Red Line, & Orange Line Transformation Projects)

My thoughts exactly. It's not hurting any operations, other than the fact that the tunnel serves as the size restriction for the cars for the BL (correct, F-Line?).

Quincy Market Update/Renovation | Faneuil Hall Marketplace | Downtown

I had a few pints there a couple of weeks ago. Great space with a fun, relaxed vibe. And not just tourists. When it's warm out and they can use the patios and open the windows, it's gonna be a killer spot.
