    Silver Line to Chelsea

The issue with the common entrance at South Station is that you can't charge a transfer between the SL1-3 and RL without a tap-on/tap-off system. I'd argue that it's of similar service quality to the street-level parts of the green line.

    Reasonable Transit Pitches

Well considering that they're only really suited for replacing diamond interchanges, and they aren't a whole lot of diamond interchanges in the Boston area, there's not too many candidates. SE Expressway and Columbia is probably the best candidate. There's also a couple diamond interchanges...

    Crazy Transit Pitches

I was assuming you'd go between the pike and CR to Boston Landing (presumably with stops at West Station, Cambridge St, and Boston Landing (possibly outright replacing the CR station there since you'd need to rework the station a bit to get 4 tracks under Everett St). Probably the easiest way to...

    Crazy Transit Pitches

If you're trying to get the BL to Allston with this plan wouldn't you run into issues with getting the BL line across Main St? The building just south of Main St straddles GJR thus preventing elevating the line and the RL is just below the street, so the only option would be to tear down the...

    Green Line Reconfiguration

Is there a reason this thread is now in this forum rather than "design a better Boston"?

    Reasonable Transit Pitches

I once saw transit workers set up tape barriers around the station and had everyone tap the handheld charliecard readers to pay in order to handle a game crowd. Though I'm also fairly certain I've seen times when they didn't do this after a game, so maybe it was just and experimental thing or...

    New England Electrical Grid

This article, also from David Roberts, does a great job of summarizing the challenges decarbinization and energy storage pose.

    Amazon HQ2 RFP

That makes no sense with Nashville and Indianapolis still on the list.

Why Boston rents are so high.

For whatever reason, New England built tripledeckers during the development of streetcar suburbs when the rest of the country was building row housing, and the trend stuck.

    Amazon HQ2 RFP

Amazon use of USPS is much more common in more rural areas where UPS or Amazon might not have the volume to justify getting a delivery van on every street (at least not on the daily basis required to meet amazon's 2-day shipping guarantees), but USPS is going to go down every street every day...

I-90 Interchange Improvement Project & West Station | Allston

The easiest way to kill local support for this project would adding a light on Comm Ave that could make the B-line slower than it already is. (Edit: Getting rid of a grocery store is probably the second easiest way)

I-90 Interchange Improvement Project & West Station | Allston

Correct, you would probably some sort ramp ala Everett St. There is also the Athletic department, ROTC, and BU Bands. Plus Babcock, Malvern, and Pratt are mostly populated by BU students. Any substantial Packard's corner redesign dies without BU's support.

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

The are two existing crossings 500 feet on each side from where the pedestrian crossing would be.

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

Braintree and Riverside are both about 10 miles out. That would be equivalent to zone 4 or 5 in London. But regardless, I believe fare zones for rapid transit would require a change to state law. Also there's plenty other than fare zones you can do with tap outs. Eg data collection or out of...

    BU Development Thread

BU has an agreement with the city to not purchase any more buildings in the Audobon Circle neighborhood past the alley between Beacon and Buswell.

    BU Development Thread

I'm curious, if this happens, whether BU would be looking to hold the Wheelock campus long term. It seems just too far away (and too awkwardly located relative to BU and the street grid for good bus service) for keeping it to work well.

    Comm Ave Bridge Replacement.

BU only has something like 6-8 buses.

    Boston 2024

Worth pointing out that the most expensive parts of the Olympics is often the infrastructure improvements, and while the projects are often things that had been proposed or were already in the pipeline, they often lack sure funding until the olympics get awarded. LA county has already committed...

Connected/Automated vehicles and infrastructure in Boston

Thanks for these explanations. I think the issue I was having was that people seem to automatically go to things eliminating stop lights when discussing the connected vehicles that I was having trouble staring to thinking about what advantages could from using communication between cars as a...

That is true of Hyde Park vs Fairmont, but Readville is Zone 2 in both lines.
