Regional Rail (RUR) & North-South Rail Link (NSRL)

Re: North-South Rail Link I would imagine you'd pair the line that are double tracked (say Worcester to Salem, Providence to Lowell, and Fairmont to Fitchburg) and have the other lines continue terminating at the surface terminals.

Given that the path appears to be wider in the third image where there is no cross walk, I expect this is the case.

What would be gained by this? Where's this coming from?

    Reasonable Transit Pitches

I think the key is to have more trains from SS going towards BBY regardless of where they go beyond. When it comes to a short trip like this how long it takes is basically irrelevant compared how frequently the trains run. And you're only going to get EMU towards Riverside if we can have more...

    Reasonable Transit Pitches

North of Kelton you wouldn't be able to eliminate the WB carriage without moving the green line tracks to make enough space for all WB traffic to go on that side of the green line tracks. Edit: The main problem with Comm Ave is that the wide lanes and the median between each direction of...

Housing a Changing City: Boston 2030

Here's a nice video on how to maximize housing from an engineering perspective; as in maximizing usable floor area at the lowest cost. Though one of his suggestions is prefab buildings which definitely would not fly here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o6XlcarjqAw

    I can't imagine it'd be much different.

Kenmore Square North (WHOOP) | 533-541 Commonwealth Ave | Fenway

Even if it was true that BU owned practically all of BSR, which is not true as there's dozens of buildings they don't own, my points would still stand that less than half of Kenmore between deerfield and charlesgate is owned by BU and that there's plenty of non-BU residents in the area.

Kenmore Square North (WHOOP) | 533-541 Commonwealth Ave | Fenway

Calm down, BU doesn't even own 1/2 of the land between Deerfield and Charlesgate. There are plenty of non-BU residents in the area. Because currently there aren't any restrictions on what land the educational institutions cam buy and private developers will always put their land to a better use.

Kenmore Square North (WHOOP) | 533-541 Commonwealth Ave | Fenway

This is pure guesswork, but either of the former Lesley/Art Institute buildings in Kenmore that BU now owns (one on Beacon towards the Pike, the other on Newbury) would both be suitable candidates if it wasn't the fact that both are particularly dreary stretches of street that would not look...

Is it me or is the end of the car red rather than yellow?

Regional Rail (RUR) & North-South Rail Link (NSRL)

Look into the amount of service Metro North and LIRR provide on two tracks (or on, say, the RER). It dwarfs the Worcester Line. Unless there's plans for a new NEC high speed route coming from the West, 2 tracks will be fine.

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

I'm beginning to think there's no real excuse for giving E priority over B. B has the larger issues with capacity. And if we're really just looking at Sutherland & Blandford vs Heath St, I would argue that Sutherland & Blandford would be easier to lengthen the platforms since Heath St will...

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

They are. I believe they are designed with the possibility of 3 car trains in mind, and I assume the amount of things that have been future proofed for 3 car trains is why they went with 112' cars. Longer could replace the current fleet more easily and give a small capacity increase, but would...

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

It helps that many of the stations that are the best candidates to get consolidated or eliminated are on the list. eg 2 of the Warren St/Allston St/ Griggs St set (the latter 2), all of the Saint Paul/Kent/Hawes set, and Brandon Hall. Also its 27 platforms across 15 stations, rather than 27...

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

Some thoughts from the slides: Improvements to B and C to allow 2 type 10 cars will be part Phase IV which is at least 12 years out and mentioned as a "long term possibility" This means that B and C will be limited to single 10 or dual type 9 trains for at least several years, possibly...

    Crazy Transit Pitches

Yes, particularly part of the reason Crossrail is a such a big deal is that London lacks much through running rail service, and none that east-west. I believe the only ones that currently exist are Thameslink (which has suffered from capacity issues until this year) and another line that goes...

    Crazy Transit Pitches

That sounds just like a regular subway line rather than Crossrail. Unless we're planning on feeding it with trains coming from the Worcester Line and OC, comparisons to Crossrail are probably off.

    Silver Line to Chelsea

MBTA isn't missing out on any fare revenue there since Massport covers the fares of people who board SL1 at Logan.
