  1. Equilibria

    1280-1330 Boylston Street, Brookline

Just jumping into this now... does anyone have any thoughts about the actual proposal? ;) I'd guess about half this height is sacrificial, since this would be over 200' and this part of Brookline would sooner give up their membership to The Country Club than allow that to happen. I'm concerned...

    Tufts Development Projects

"Soar to 10 floors" - it's nice to see that the guy who used to write architecture reviews for the Globe found a new niche on Reddit...

North Station Gateway | 251 Causeway St | Bulfinch Triangle

I was thinking the same thing, but with the position in the skyline of One Rincon Hill.
  4. Equilibria

North Station Gateway | 251 Causeway St | Bulfinch Triangle

The North End neighbors would say "if a city can't maintain the sanctity of a beautifully-preserved urban neighborhood dating back 300 years, it has a ways to go as a city... build this over in the West End or Back Bay where towers belong."

North Station Gateway | 251 Causeway St | Bulfinch Triangle

PNF: https://bpda.app.box.com/s/ct0mqxzmqnl4op593n562adr5urnop89 This now has a name: "North Station Gateway Project". It's a shame this will never get built, because it looks really nice. Since someone brought up earlier the fact that the BPD has the wrong neighborhood assigned to this, I'd...

Red Line Extension to Arlington Heights

The issue is the tunneling. Arlington's density in these areas isn't dissimilar from Newton, Brookline, or Milton, but those areas don't even have heavy rail, much less tunneled heavy rail.
  7. Equilibria

New Red and Orange Line Cars

No. The Green Line Type 10s are from CAF, the same factory that did the Type 9s and Type 7 rehabs. It's a way better choice and should go much more smoothly.
  8. Equilibria

AstraZeneca/Alexion MXD Tower | 290 Binney Street | Kendall Square

Worth noting that the building at 105 Broadway likely would not be a blob. Nothing they've done at MXP has been so far, and they've gone above-and-beyond in unexpected ways.
  9. Equilibria

Lyrik Back Bay | 1001 Boylston Street (Parcel 12) | Back Bay

You somehow caught not one, but two couples snuggling up to watch that sunset. That's about the best statement of success you could get for that public amenity.

Bulfinch Crossing | Congress Street Garage | West End

And oh boy, did people on this site hate it when it was proposed...

    Boynton Yards | 99-101 South/808 Windsor | Somerville

Ambitious thought that they would move the Fluff Festival there... They also come very close to suggesting in the full site render that South Street will punch through to Webster. That's currently a parking lot driveway, so it would take some doing to make it happen, but it should.

Lyrik Back Bay | 1001 Boylston Street (Parcel 12) | Back Bay

Off-topic, but Illinois is one of the few places in the US where these exist. I believe they're very common in Europe. I'm not sure how the cost pencils out with duplicative rest stops on each side vs. one more expensive building, but they certainly look cooler both inside and out.

Lyra (née The Huntington) | 252/258/264 Huntington Avenue | Fenway

According to Wikipedia, yes, though since this article is surely updated mostly by people on this site, it's kind of a circular logic... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_tallest_buildings_in_Boston

8-10 Waldo Street | Coolidge Corner | Brookline

The demolition took place over the last couple of months - was there something wrong with the buildings on site that would have required their demolition without any plans to build?

South Station Tower | South Station Air Rights | Downtown

No, the best angle is the oblique from I-93 (and presumably somewhere else on the other sides) where it looks blade-thin. It isn't on the lower floors, so it's a really clever use of angles.

    Logan Airport Capital Projects

Fair enough on my musing, but my proposal leaves the letters.
  17. Equilibria

    Logan Airport Capital Projects

That's fair, but I think that asking people to get used to one change once is an acceptable thing.

    Logan Airport Capital Projects

This is part of the value of a single sequence. You can be told "you're at gate 99" and it doesn't matter whether it's E or C. All you need to know is that if you're flying Jetblue (or picking up someone who is) you need to pick them up at C (unless they're coming in internationally, in which...
  19. Equilibria

    Logan Airport Capital Projects

Yup, which is why I did. See the note I put next to the C piers about leaving 6 numbers worth of slack there. Also, FWIW, I think it's less of a fail to have a couple of gates become A/B than to have a sequence of 39, 40, 23, 24... a person can pretty easily process an A/B subsequence (and it...

MGH Ragon Building | 55 Fruit Street | West End

I was not prepared for how much of a skyline impact these buildings will have. From the Mass. Ave. Bridge, they're basically as prominent as 1 Longfellow Place.
