    Rose Kennedy Greenway

Maybe it's because there's no vines growing on them like you'd expect? I read somewhere that's because the metal gets too hot for vines to grow on them. The write-up made it sound like they were intentionally designed that way, but I think it was another case of the designers being so obsessed...

^ Neat. I never knew there's an angle from which Boston loosely resembles the traditional Oz skyline.

Seaport Neighborhood - Infill and Discussion

Pretty impressive given what this view looked like 20 or even 10 years ago. It's like the Seaport is Shenzhen's Micro-me.

Just like "infrastructure" has been redefined to mean "home care for the elderly" it looks like "fascist" has been redefined to mean "anyone whose circumstances and life experiences have led them to form values and opinions that are different from my own". Language evolves and I suppose I can...

NEMA Boston | 399 Congress St. | Seaport

Too bad the quality of the panels doesn't show up in the photos but the cheapness of the glass comes thru loud and clear. I hope I get an opportunity soon to visit the Seaport and see what this building and all the other new buildings look like in real life. It's been a couple of years since I...

NEMA Boston | 399 Congress St. | Seaport

Really glad to read that. That glass though...Just looking at it in the photo makes me feel faintly nauseous.

Echelon Seaport | 133-135 Seaport Blvd | Seaport

This looks awesome, can hardly wait to see it IRL. It's so damn nice when the final product you get is really close to what the renderings promised.

321 Harrison Ave | South End

The curtain walls on this building, the new Beth Israel bulding and 105 W. First Street really really really rub me the wrong way. As far as glassy variations of Ye Olde Borg Cube go I think they look even worse than Goodwin and PwC. But lucky for them they have One MPD to make them look good.

To offer an alternate viewpoint, I consider the homeless to be pretty hostile to urban life in various ways. I moved out of Back Bay four years ago after living and working there for over two decades. Because home and work were both on Dartmouth St. but on opposite sides of Boylston I had to...

And now for something completely silly... There is such a thing as trying so hard to be different and grab people's attention that you end up making a complete fool of yourself.

Just in case anyone is confused, the statement white reactionary violence against people of color at the hands of the state and vigilantes is in no way, shape or form a perfect example of talking about complex social problems in a totalizing and apocalyptic way. If it seems that way to you then...

Looking at this photo makes me feel like Boston has finally dipped its toe into the 21st century.

Suggests a remake of "The Birds" as an avian version of 9/11.

Best Civil Engineering & Urban Planning Books

Intriguing list. Not one I would have ever thought of, but I suppose that in a culture where home care for the elderly is regarded as infrastructure it makes sense that King Philip's War: Colonial Expansion, Native Resistance, and the End of Indian Sovereignty could be considered a book on civil...

    The New Retail Thread

I've never thought about what an ideal food court aesthetic would be. Maybe because they're generally loud, crowded, can require you to stand in line forever, can be difficult to find a seat, the one you eventually find may be wet with spilled soda, and other operational things like that are...

    The New Retail Thread

Contemporary interior design is really depressing. This is what a set from a dystopian 1970's movie where people live bleak underground lives after a nuclear holocaust would have looked like.

    105 W First Street | South Boston

The glazing makes me think of gift wrap, like this is a gigantic gift-wrapped box.
