Seaport Neighborhood - Infill and Discussion

You're reading that 100% the opposite of what I meant and what the person who posted the comment meant. When he wrote that Mission Bay is good, but not quite Boston Seaport good, he was saying that Mission Bay is not as good as the Seaport, not that it's better than the Seaport, which is also...

Seaport Neighborhood - Infill and Discussion

Maybe so, but how many people from outside Boston have you seen routinely praising the "equally nice Harborwalk from the Financial District to the North End"? I haven't seen any, but I have seen a lot of the kind of praise #bancars is talking about. For me this is the highest compliment the...

Seaport Neighborhood - Infill and Discussion

Maybe, but I don't think you could have the very nice Harborwalk if you didn't also have the mall-like Seaport to support it.

Photo of the Day, Boston Style: Part XVI (2022)

I think that problem isn't due to the park itself though, but to the fact that nobody lives around there. There probably isn't much that can be done to the park that will fix that, but conversion of older office buildings to residential would improve the situation. Every once in a while there'll...

Photo of the Day, Boston Style: Part XVI (2022)

I'm your typical eat-lunch-at-my-desk nerd programmer, but the year and half I worked for Wellington at 75 State St. I had lunch at the park 2-3 times a week if the weather allowed it. It really is a great public space, and very lively at lunchtime.

    Boston Common Overhaul

LOL. This is news to me. Since when has the Common been known as the "people's park"? Sounds very Communist China. I think I'll start using that moniker in conversation and see how it goes over: "I'm going for a stroll in the people's park. Want to join me?" "When I lived in Back Bay I used...

    General Boston Discussion

I don't follow your argument. People not having to live in their employer's city should mean fewer future employees will be moving there and some current employees will move out. That should mean less demand for housing and hence less need for construction. Rather than booming, cities should be...

    General Boston Discussion

My question was about apples, but apart from Suffolk 83 all the subsequent comments are about oranges. I'm not in real estate and don't follow what's going on in other cities with the exception of NYC and SF. Now that I know this boom is not unique to Boston and is happening in many other US...

    General Boston Discussion

My thoughts exactly! I'm flabbergasted because there's so much construction going on the city despite all the news I read about inflation, gas prices, the generally poor state of the economy, and all the other problems afflicting the country. But Boston seems largely unaffected by all that. I...

Winthrop Center | 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

What about them? I just tossed out the idea as something I’d like to see, the way lots of posters toss out the idea of building a thousand-footer at this or that location. I’m not a traffic engineer, so I didn’t perform a rigorous traffic analysis to determine the feasibility of my idea before...

South Station Tower | South Station Air Rights | Downtown

Anyone know if the arch will still be visible from Summer St. when all the construction is done? (same ? for Atlantic Ave)

Winthrop Center | 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

I'd love to see Devonshire pedestrianized or woonerfied from beyond the loading docks all the way to Franklin, and turned into something like what was originally planned for Congress Square. Same for Otis St. Make the whole area a pedestrian-centered space as free of cars as possible.

    Olmsted Green Townhouse condominiums

To borrow the shtick of a columnist whose name I don't recall, "Sadness and Ennui" would be a great name for a rock band (especially if their style is anything like the Cure, Sisters of Mercy, etc.)

Seaport Neighborhood - Infill and Discussion

Agreed. That part of it I get. What I don't get is what they mean by "Launching the Pavilion". I thought they meant starting construction, but in the article it sounds like they're just launching a publicity campaign so people know it's coming.

Am I reading this right? It seems all they've actually "launched" is a publicity campaign.

Or that some folks still believe in Boston office buildings. Either way, great news for the city!

    Aerials

That's a nice pic of the Boston skyline in the background. You get to see everything under construction from one end to the other. Too bad it's not bigger.
