Is there any worse entry point to a MBTA station in the system? Looking at that feels like walking down a back alley, or a grungy underpass.

They're guards to protect bridges, walls, etc from damage in case of derailment. I think they're called guard rails.

I'm familiar with the ramp that is there. The semi-temporary look of the metal ramp along with dirt slope being cleaned up a bit made me hope that there was going to be a nice grand entrance to the path from the bridge here.

Just noticed on the GLX webcams that they have tracks laid from Science Park to Lechmere. From the Red Bridge view you can see them laying ballast on the bridge so we should be seeing full tracks from Union to Science Park pretty soon...
