    Reasonable Transit Pitches

When I look at maps like this, I think about the glaring hole in the middle. How do we get from mid-Somerville/mid-Cambridge to Allston/West Station/Brighton? This could take a lot of pressure off the downtown core and would fit in nicely with Sullivan Station expansion and expanding transit to...

MIT's Ames Street plan [PDF]: http://res.cloudinary.com/courbanize-production/image/upload/v1/information_plans/vh2gcol67irx9samirvu Includes a reconfigured intersection with Memorial Drive in the hopes that drivers will finally stop for people crossing the road:

    Reasonable Transit Pitches

I forget if I saw it somewhere or just looked into it on my own, but if/when OL conversion happens, merging Bellevue and Highland stops into an OL station around Belgrade Ave/W Rox Pkwy would make evenly 1-mile-spaced stations (Roslindale Village, Belgrade Ave, West Rox):

    Somerville Infill and Small Developments

Just off Union Square (across the street from Bow Market). Exactly where we should be building this scale. But damn, that's a lot of studios: 77 studios, 20 1-bed, 1 3-bed (yes, I typed that correctly) [edit: no I didn't – it's 3 3-bed units (thanks for reading well, fattony)]. Of course, this...

Allston Yards (Stop and Shop) | 60 Everett St | Allston

Looks good overall—moving the grocery store south improves its walkshed, as it's that much closer to the residential neighborhood/Union Square. I can't see why New Balance wouldn't make the Braintree Street connection once the later phases are done (but not much reason to do so before then). I...

Alexandra Hotel Renovation | 1769 Washington St | Roxbury

Re: Alexandra Hotel Renovation | 1769 Washington St | South End Great project overall, but none of the “traffic” options are acceptable - they all add curbside parking next to the bus stop, and even with a red carpet bus-only lane, Boston drivers are going to double-park in that all day long...

Amazon HQ2 selected - and not Boston

Much of the opposition was driven by the incentives ("corporate welfare") that New York was giving to Amazon. Sure, there are (strong) concerns about gentrification etc., but without the incentives, those criticisms wouldn't have carried very far. This is is really a repudiation of secretive...

MIT East Campus - Kendall Square Gateway | Cambridge

Per coUrbanize, there's a meeting regarding the continuation of the existing Ames Street 2-way protected bike lane (between Broadway and Main Street) all the way to the river (by way of an improved intersection at Memorial Drive—sorely needed):

SBWTC /South Boston Waterfront Transportation Center | Seaport

Gotta push back on this – driving and parking is a reality because we build 1600 parking spots instead of improving transit. This was an active choice that shows the priorities of the state. Every time we build parking instead of improving transportation alternatives, we are worsening...

    Congestion toll in Boston?

Arlington, I (and surely countless others) really appreciate your research and well-formed arguments. This is clearly a critical discussion to have—thank you for elevating the conversation with data, reports, and links.

    Congestion toll in Boston?

Those are costs of having a car, or of using a car. Those are not costs for using public resources (the roads) or making society deal with your transportation choices (pollution, congestion). Right now you're (we're all) getting those for free, which causes overuse (see: tragedy of the commons).

    Congestion toll in Boston?

No, you pay $5 to enter a congested area – where the presence your vehicle has an outsized impact on others. If that causes you to not drive downtown—hey, you're at Alewife, maybe take the T, or maybe take a walk without getting in your car, or drive somewhere else and walk around—then it's...

    MBTA Buses & Infrastructure

Right – the 68 is basically every 40 minutes from 6:30am to 7pm, and not on weekends. Of course no one with other options is going to plan for that – they'll walk, bike, or call an Uber instead (and indeed, the route description shows that most riders are transit-dependent). If it were 20- or...
