Parcel JK | Cambridge Crossing | Cambridge

Re: Parcel JK | NorthPoint | Cambridge And if any of the residential plans change (at all), they would be subject to the most recently enacted affordable housing rate instead of what existed at approval—so an increase to 20% from the approved 11.5%. Big change...

    Longfellow Bridge update

Change of topic: The Appleton Pedestrian Bridge from Charles Circle to the Esplanade is being replaced this week. From MassDOT's email update: [emphasis added] In a previous email they also mentioned overnight Storrow Drive disruptions this week.

    Biking in Boston

Beautiful--Thanks, chmeeee! Interesting to see Galileo brought down to one lane each direction very explicitly (plus turning lanes for each direction at intersections). Broadway as well. This will really be Copenhagen-level when it's all built. Biking will be by far the simplest, quickest way...

    Biking in Boston

From 2018-07-31 bxp presentation (PDF) via the MXD II thread. Very cool to see dates (mostly) assigned to filling in the cycle track network. Namely: - Vassar & Main (SoMA): Vassar desperately needs to continue bike lane protection through the intersection. Where the sidewalk-level path turns...

The city wants a bridge, and from what I've heard they're using this incident as a way to press the issue, since it'll increase the number of people (not cars, *cough previous poster cough*) who can access Alewife station. see Envision Cambridge report, p. 43...

Proto | 88 Ames St | Kendall Square | Cambridge

I really like the vertical stripes on the tower, but with the break between the podium and the tower, continuing the stripes on the podium seems to accentuate the wrong dimension (at least to my unarchitectual eye). Overall very happy though. Thanks for the pics, beeline!

    Longfellow Bridge update

Nice! Though totals for the bridge will be slightly different—some of those bikes may be going to 3rd Street, while others that cross the bridge may be coming from Main St or Mem Drive. But I have no doubt the finished product is encouraging even more people to ride bikes across the bridge...

Housing a Changing City: Boston 2030

Here's an article on modular housing in the New York Times: https://www.nytimes.com/2018/06/07/business/economy/modular-housing.html Interesting take on the labor side of things:

    SUPERCEDED MXD | Kendall Square

Very good points. Especially since bike infra and bus improvements reduce driving needs for people within ~3 miles, and red line for people within ~20 miles. Plus, there are a thousand homes coming online in the next few years within a mile of Kendall (Ames St, Mass+Main, Akamai phase II-III)...

Northeastern University - Institutional Master Plan

Yep, that makes a lot of sense and is ideal for the multiple uses along Columbus. Thanks! And thanks, steve, for the pictures - much easier to understand the changes. I'm digging it.

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

When the tunnel was shut a couple weeks ago and the SL took a scheduled surface route, they didn’t accommodate red line transfers at all - after getting dropped off at street level, still had to tap in to get to the red line. So what’s normally a free silver-red ride from the airport ended up...

Northeastern University - Institutional Master Plan

Nice pics – thanks, stevebikes! I heard that this stretch of Columbus will have the pointless median removed and be getting protected bike lanes. Can anyone confirm if this is related to Northeastern's work, or is it totally separate? It definitely looks like those new sidewalks are plenty wide...

    Logan Airport Capital Projects

Why not try Orange-Blue-shuttle? Especially at rush hour, this minimizes the time in street traffic, especially in the most congested areas (the tunnel, the Seaport—heck, those T lines shouldn't be bad, either).

    Biking in Boston

Cambridge City Council is voting tonight on a key part of the Inman Square redesign: to flip Velluci Plaza to the opposite (more useful) side of Hampshire Street, the city must submit a Home Rule petition to the state. This has big implications for bicycle infrastructure through the square (as...

    Longfellow Bridge update

Pedestrians and Cambridge-bound bicyclists are now on the downstream sidewalk. Which is nice, since it's wider than the upstream sidewalk, and it's on the correct side for Cambridge-bound traffic again (relative to the streets entering/exiting the bridge).
