    Portland International Jetport | PWM

Please no. The Embraer 175 is a vastly more comfortable jet than CRJ's. And yes the newish AA service to Portland will be 175's. My partner is crew on those flights.

Infill and Small Developments | Portland

Good luck with this one. I worked in that building for years. The structure really is not set up for a hotel.

The Casco | 201 Federal Street | Portland

From the water, Aucocisco has definitely changed the Portland skyline.

Portland Foreside | 58 Fore Street | Portland

I look forward to seeing how this is actually built out. As they say "the proof is in the pudding" and "put up or shut up"! LOL

Mercy Hospital | 144 State Street | Portland

Would not have been my first choice for an area that receives no natural light. It feels "military institutional".

Portland Museum of Art Expansion | Portland

As I have asserted before, just because it was designed by this firm does not make it great architecture. There really is nothing outstanding about the architecture of the museum but adding the "hole" to the right side of the facade actually creates more balance to the facade than currently...

They have submitted an application to demolish the old children's museum.

The Casco | 201 Federal Street | Portland

Was sad I was unable to make the tour yesterday but saw this view of the tower coming off Munjoy Hill. What a presence it makes from this direction!

Unfortunately I need to bow out. I have too much else going on but thank you!

The Armature | 52 Hanover St | Portland

Maintenance of underground utilities is incredibly cheaper in the long run than the cost of having to be constantly trimming trees away from lines and the repairs to lines caused by storms. I grew up in a city out west with buried utilities and never once did we lose power.

Is there an update on the tour scheduled for 9/20?

    General Portland Discussion

Unfortunately, many of the trees along the arterial are already approaching the end of their lives. Large trees such as these also rarely survive transplantation. There are beautiful oaks that would be nice to save but they have taproots and rarely survive. I am a horticulturist/landscape...

I totally agree. Redfern is proving themselves to be a responsible, forward thinking development partner.

Portland Foreside | 58 Fore Street | Portland

If this project comes to fruition in this iteration including the roof gardens I think it could be a pretty cool concept. The chances of that happening though are likely ZERO. I'd also like to see a little more height to these buildings but of course the NIMBY's would have a field day with that.

    It's a trap ... we're being set up. LOL

The Casco | 201 Federal Street | Portland

I will be there with bells on. Thank you!

Mercy Hospital | 144 State Street | Portland

Yes. As a landscape designer and horticulturist I appreciate the fact that thought has been put into the landscaping and they didn't just throw some half dead trees in the ground as has occurred recently on a couple of other projects.

THAT is supposed to get us excited about what is to come??? It looks like an industrial storage site.

It is not an imaginary problem. If allowed, corporations will take the cheapest route to the end product. Mandating architectural design standards is a more and more common practice resulting in a more attractive built environment. Tell me, which of these is more desirable?

But it's in my favorite color palette, Soviet Bloc Greige! Architects are supposed to be creative beings but a good portion of them are just spitting out cookie cutter crap. The planning board needs to step up and demand better. You will not get anything more attractive unless you mandate it.
