Cape Cod Rail, Bridges and Highways

Re: Boston to Cape rail The only issue with turning some ROWs into trails is that it can give some abutters credibility/legitimacy. I spent some time volunteering for the Danvers Railtrail on the ROW running from Peabody to Topsfield (Former Newburyport RR ROW?), and we ran into the issue of a...

    Green Line Reconfiguration

Should we really be routing a lot of current Green Line traffic away from GLX and towards the Seaport/South Station? I think it makes more sense to keep the most frequent service along the existing route, and instead route the E and Dudley that way. Aside from the E which is already the...

    Green Line Reconfiguration

Wouldn't Red-Blue, GLX to Porter, and the proposed (on here at least) GL spur to either Harvard or Kendall (via Grand Junction) reduce Park Street transfers too? Porter/Harvard connections could fall under the relatively reasonable pitch category and potentially implemented alongside this...

    Green Line Reconfiguration

Thanks for the responses, I totally forgot about them needing to run busses for the airport and upcoming Chelsea line. Transitmass, I love your point about how converting the non-brt routes will make the Silver Line seem like much more legitimate brt, and agree 100%.

    Green Line Reconfiguration

What happens to the Silver Line after all of this? Does the T upgrade a couple key bus routes as replacement lines, or do you guys think they'll be phased out altogether once the funding is present for rail along all the silver line corridors?

Boston done in Sim City 4!

Anyone made/found a good Boston map to work with in CS? I'm thinking about making or using a somewhat functioning "Boston" as my next city, and was curious what others had already done. If you havent checked it out already, then I really recommend you do. Definitely a worthy successor to Sim...

    Reasonable Transit Pitches

I still don't understand where the demand is for this in the short term when BLX to Lynn has been delayed for decades. Given the state of infrastructure right now, and the looming Olympics, it's a waste to devote any resources which could be spent on legit transportation planning and advocacy.

Regional Rail (RUR) & North-South Rail Link (NSRL)

Re: North-South Rail Link I just don't see the blue line as being on par with the quality of transfering to other lines, especially when EMUs to Lynn enter the picture. Unless there are plans for massive growth and redevelopment along the Blue Line, there aren't any destinations which couldn't...

Regional Rail (RUR) & North-South Rail Link (NSRL)

Re: North-South Rail Link Yeah, I agree 100%. The 30 story headhouse comment was supposed to come across more tongue in cheek, I doubt Central Station will make it into any final plans, just too much of a hassle for too little benefit. The expansions and major current destinations of the Blue...

Regional Rail (RUR) & North-South Rail Link (NSRL)

Re: North-South Rail Link I saw talk about there being serious vibrations and what not from all the link traffic, but how would it be different than a traditional subway? I'm not getting into the "if" they should build this building discussion, but how hard would it be to design this without...

    Crazy Transit Pitches

Driverless or otherwise, cars will never be able to feature the same capacities as virtually any other form of transit. Even if you only proposed touching the commuter rail, you're still going to need to find a way to transport 3000+ people from stations like Beverly and Salem, where there is...

    Boston 2024

Is there the demand there for that though? I can maybe see umass wanting more housing nearby, but aside from that it looks like any development would be flanked by an interstate highway on one side, and surrounded by lower density residential with the exception of BC High and Umass Boston...

    Boston 2024

According to the Wikipedia page for the bid, they want to hold the canoe and kayak events all the way out in Deerfield and Westfield. It seems weird to host an event 2 hours away from Boston in places with virtually no transit access, does anyone have more info on that?

    Blue Line extension to Lynn

He's also all for electrification of the commuter rail according to his website, http://www.sethmoulton.com/transportation Mostly a lot of political jargon on the site, but at least it's jargon in the right direction.

Regional Rail (RUR) & North-South Rail Link (NSRL)

Re: North-South Rail Link In addition to the things already mentioned, I feel like this could be run through/above the Greenway if the demand was really seen to be there. With trains traveling at such extreme frequencies between the two through the link, I just dont see the need for a...

Regional Rail (RUR) & North-South Rail Link (NSRL)

Re: North-South Rail Link That Indigo map would be amazing, youre right on the link needing EMUs, I completely forgot about that whole ventilation thing. I definitely think an early pitch of new EMUs and the link as a "whole new rapid transit line through downtown Boston" would sell pretty...

    Blue Line extension to Lynn

The thing is, aside from the brief stretch between Wonderland and Riverworks/the Lynnway, something not too different than the existing Red Line Braintree branch, Lynn has 40,000 more people and an almost identical density. With the potential for TOD and a Riverworks/Lynnway infill station, the...
