Fall River/New Bedford Commuter Rail (South Coast Rail)

Re: Fall River/New Bedford Commuter Rail But why should the rest of the state pay the bill to do so? The state's existing infrastructure is crumbling, which could mean destroying existing economic centers and tourist areas. Why should we focus on extending CR to the south coast when the same...

Ok so if I wanted to make purty maps like you guys where would I want to start off?

    Crazy Transit Pitches

Loving that line going through Danvers to Marblehead, although I think a branch going to the North Shore Mall / Lahey Clinic would be more likely than to Danvers proper. Restored service via Wakefield on the CR is also really cool. Love the map, can only imagine the possibilities if it ever...

Your maps freaking rock, love the way these look. You shouldve entered them for the contest a couple months ago.

    Crazy Transit Pitches

Yeah but by burying the rapid transit we couldnt have bustitution. Look at all the cities which used to have streetcars, and you'll find the ones without tunnels are no longer around for the most part.

    North Station-South Station Rail Link

Yeah... no. You're playing up this whole "unsexy" improvement angle saying that spending a billion on necessary maitence buildings is in the same vein to 5 billion + on an unnecessary (current rail ops/maitence wise) rail link. The projects you're talking about arent generating 0 passengers...

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

Re: Green Line to Medford to start in 2011 Apologies if this has already been posted, saw this on twitter today. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZaXk-DIAsM&feature=youtu.be

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

Re: Green Line to Medford to start in 2011 Think like that and you end up with entire neighborhoods destroyed for highways and urban renewal. If you're degenerating into screaming like a frothing lunatic then maybe it would be best to cool off before you post.

    Crazy Transit Pitches

That is a really cool idea, maybe Seashore could throw them a couple more trolleys to help out too. Would be really nice if it could connect with NS too, and a NS/SS shuttle could run along with the circular seaport route. The OL/GL connection would be nice too.

    Crazy Transit Pitches

Really surprised that nothing took the place of the old Atlantic El, extending the #7 trolley could be an interesting project today. How did the streetcar work once it got to SS?

    Ferry to Lynn?

I also don't think someone's willing to pay the higher cost of the ferry if they have to take the bus there. If you're taking the bus, it's cheaper and easier to just go to Wonderland.

    Ferry to Lynn?

If this takes 25-30 minutes to get to Boston and $8 per trip it's hard to see the merits compared to a 15-20 minuteand $2 ride from Wonderland. If the busses weren't such a pain or the blue line was extended, there would really be no justification for this service.

    Ferry to Lynn?

These are the rates for the Salem ferry: Rates Adults Seniors Child Round Trip: $29 One-Way: $17 Ten Ride: $135 Commuter/Adult* Round Trip: $16 One-Way: $8 Ten Ride: $72 Round Trip: $24 One-Way: $14 Ten Ride: $115 Commuter/Seniors* Round Trip: $8 One-Way: $4 Ten Ride: $36 Round Trip: $24...

    Reasonable Transit Pitches

If they want to run DMUs through the grand junction, then what about sending some worcester trains that way instead? I know it's been studied before, but this could help relieve some of the capacity issues at SS and would be a good precursor to eventual DMU or potentially light rail/urban ring...

    Crazy Transit Pitches

The idea of an elevated portion where tunneling is impossible makes me wonder what other crazy pitches would be affordable/less crazy if we weren't so anti-el. (Dont say a monorail)

    Crazy Transit Pitches

We only went to the moon for political reasons, and those same political reasons are why an Essex street subway will never work but we can spend billions on the big dig. The "motorists" here make up residents from across the state and account for a huge chunk of the voters in Massachusetts.You...

I was referring to this, I can't cite anything else but I believe it's been said on here before about increasing frequency on the Eastern route.

    Crazy Transit Pitches

How much would it cost to extend the Orange line out there as originally planned? The bottlenecks are there because the OL takes up 3 tracks, and if existing service is going to go through the Lowell line then why not? With Lowell turned to OL then the Eastern Route is the only thing going...

    Reasonable Transit Pitches

Well, I am mistaken. Didnt realize how much room was on the viaduct there. I still dont like the idea of only running a dmu that makes 2 stops on that line. (Riverworks doesnt count).
