Four Seasons Tower @ CSC | 1 Dalton Street | Back Bay

Re: New tower at Christian Science Church Plaza I know nothing about groundwater tables of how they are "recharged", but if its though natural soaking of water through the top soil down to them, is it possible to relay the plaza with pervious pavers to allow water to soak in as opposed to run-off?

    The Clarendon

Thanks....and good to hear.....currently between the construction site on one side and the parking garage/Pike entrance on the other, its not exactly a pleasant pedestrian area....retail/the P.O. should help....now if they would just cap the Pike with a development ;)

Forgive my laziness for trying to track it down myself, but is any ground floor retail going in? Is the post office moving back?

New "Anti-Shadow" Laws Proposed for Boston

But depending on how the proposed law were implemented, couldn't this lead to legally non-conforming buildings across the city. This wouldn't give the city the right to condemn, but could be grounds to deny building permits that substantiatively improve a structure. For example, Harbor Towers...

Mandarin Oriental | 776 Boylston St | Back Bay

Re: Mandarin Oriental ^ I guess that was my point...if they hadn't reached the point of installing/connecting fire supression systems/life systems yet, and the place was filled with paints, glues, etc, then its little wonder that is burned so quickly and would not necessarily indicate that lax...

Mandarin Oriental | 776 Boylston St | Back Bay

Re: Mandarin Oriental I knew it! It seemed to be the most logical answer (outside of Arson) all things considered. Any indications as to whether fire supressions systems were installed (2 hour doors, sprinklers, etc.)

50 Post Office Sq (Fomer Verizon Building Tower)

Re: Verizon Building Tower I read it to mean the addition footprint would only cover the mid-rise (12 story?) portion of the property along High St, and where the HVAC equipment is if viewed from Google Earth. You could probably get about 18k sq. ft. floor plates there meaning the addition is...

    W Hotel | 100 Stuart St | Theater District

Re: W Hotel Not that I support giving money to Sawyer, but I'm betting they have a hole in financing at the moment and are getting a bit nervous about getting a take-out loan.

[ARCHIVED] Harbor Garage Redevelopment | 70 East India Row | Waterfront | Downtown

Re: New tower at Aquarium parking garage. Hmmmm...since I hate Kunstler, I have to enjoy his own contradiction. He throws out both "latent energy crises" and "the skyscraper is dead". Not to be captain obvious, but in an energy crises, densities that allow less dependence on energy would be...

[ARCHIVED] Harbor Garage Redevelopment | 70 East India Row | Waterfront | Downtown

Re: New tower at Aquarium parking garage. The arch creates a third building with the cladding a real time projection of the city beyond....perhaps that was a bit obvious, but I think its genius. In particular, I hope the "arch" is lit up at night so the illusion continues then as well. I...

[ARCHIVED] Harbor Garage Redevelopment | 70 East India Row | Waterfront | Downtown

Re: New tower at Aquarium parking garage. Love it......this building won't look right if it is chopped by much....maybe 3-5 stories can come off before the proportions look silly. I'm not holding out much hope that this is built as is, but it would be a stellar addition. It really tips its...

Fenway Center (One Kenmore) | Turnpike Parcel 7, Beacon Street | Fenway

Re: Fenway Center (One Kenmore, Mass Turnpike PARCEL 7) No UFP scrubbers, there are public subsidies, and a rigged process for assigning the developer....3 of the 4 "principals" violated....

    Downtown Crossing/Financial District | Discussion

^ That's a bit harsh...because they have poor taste in architecture their opinions are worthless? Still, I take issue that pizza doesn't make a neighborhood. I personally visited Pizza-Pie-er much more frequently than say the Nike store, which are roughly equidistant from my home. In my...

Columbus Center: RIP | Back Bay

Re: Columbus Center Ned....I know you are one who cares about process and the legalities of things and so on, so I was surprised that you took it upon yourself to reproduce a Boston Globe article. Had you done thorough research, you would have known this is illegal, and per Globe policy...

Fenway Center (One Kenmore) | Turnpike Parcel 7, Beacon Street | Fenway

Re: Fenway Center (One Kenmore, Mass Turnpike PARCEL 7) Oh Toby, don't you know anything about marketing? This is a dynamic project located in the heart of the highly coveted Back Bay/Fenway business district and located just steps from the iconic Prudential Center. :)

45 Province St | Downtown Crossing

Re: 45 Province St ^ Sounds almost so logical that I have to assume that BRA had something to do with it. Seriously though, it was a pick your poison propisition. The value of the lower floor units facing the Common wouldn't be marketable at all as they are directly across the alley from the...

[ARCHIVED] Harbor Garage Redevelopment | 70 East India Row | Waterfront | Downtown

Re: New tower at Aquarium parking garage. Well, Tom Brady lives in Back Bay, if this is where he lists his primary residence then Giselle should be eligible to run for mayor in a couple of months ;) More seriously though, knowing lots of people who actually live in the city limits, I would say...
