    Boston in the 1960's

Yes there was discussion back in the 1960s of a third tower, which would have been located on what a portion of the site that is now Rowes Wharf. The original HT developer tried to buy the site from the BRA but by the time the 2 original Harbor Towers were up, the BRA realized that more towers...

    What is this building?

Heya John, I believe that's the MBTA's Blue Line electrical substation and tunnel ventilation building, it was built about 5 years ago if memory serves...the Blue Line runs beneath State Street so the building sits just outside of the tunnel footprint. I forget who the architect is but not bad...

Re: The Boston Arch (Aquarium parking garage) Rifleman, you wrote : "Finding 600 parking spots and relocating the heating system should not be a major issue." OK, so why hasn't it happened yet, and Chiofaro has owned the garage going on three years now? If it's so easy maybe you could...

Re: The Boston Arch (Aquarium parking garage) Right. I asked you to name a recent "favored developer" who had secured a zoning variance because he/she was "favored." And btw guess what MP ended up proposing on Hayward Place - a residential compex. That's what's permitted.

Re: The Boston Arch (Aquarium parking garage) Well, we have yet to see Chiofaro submit a PDA for the BRA's consideration, that being the first step in the process, as several of you have pointed out. Also, with respect to Chapter 91, it was Secretary Bowles who personally wrote that the...

Re: The Boston Arch (Aquarium parking garage) Sicilian, an MHP (new or amendment) has to be approved by the Commonwealth. The last couple MHP amendments in Boston have been for specific projects, and the state weighs in very heavily, and has discretionary approval rights over MHP amendments...

Re: The Boston Arch (Aquarium parking garage) All great dialogue, just one minor point - while the BRA can *propose* amendments to Chapter 91 dimensional and other regulations, the ultimate discretion still rests with the Commonwealth; ergo the assertion that Chiofaro's project is held up...

Re: The Boston Arch (Aquarium parking garage) ^^czsz: You say "The "facts" are irrelevant." - you're starting to sound a lot like Chiofaro. If you've never reviewed the contracts between Chiofaro and the various third parties, I don't think you should be making such wild assertions; as I said...

Re: The Boston Arch (Aquarium parking garage) ^^ Rifleman, last time I checked, the city zoning and state law capped the height on the Harbor Garage site to 155 feet (and they've been capped at 155' since before Menino was mayor so none of that "it's personal" BS please) ...the BRA has already...

Re: The Boston Arch (Aquarium parking garage) ^^ czsz, a long-term lease for nearly half of the entire garage is a "minor contractual obligation"? If you owned an office building - no matter how ugly you thought it was, and a tenant of yours had a lease for half the space in the building, I...

Re: The Boston Arch (Aquarium parking garage) ^^ Rifleman, if there's no sense moving forward then why doesn't Chiofaro accept defeat and move on to a new site where he might have better luck? And KentXie, are you suggesting that Chiofaro has the money to construct his project? As for the...

Re: The Boston Arch (Aquarium parking garage) ^^ Rifleman, not sure what you mean when you say that the BRA upped the height to 200 feet, stripping the ball away. I mean, zoning and state law on the garage site have been 155 feet for years so don't you think Chiofaro knew that when he started...

    Rose Kennedy Greenway

I don't think the problem is lack of mesh (though that would surely help) - I think it's that the pergolas are metal and painted brown, which means they heat up hot enough to fry an egg (or anything that would otherwise grow on it) on any given sunny summer day....the landscape architects...

Re: The Boston Arch (Aquarium parking garage) Hey Rifleman, big deal -- if I'm reading the Massport map right, they would also allow a 900' building in the middle of the Public Garden and a 1,000' building on the Hatch Shell...but that doen't mean those buildings should be built, right? The...

Take the BRA's argument...
