Just biked by the intersection of Elm/Somerville earlier today. A big Redbones truck was occupying the entire bike box.

Thanks for the update. Certain portions of the street are becoming almost entirely unrideable; I've been avoiding some or all of it by taking Park St or going through Union, as I'm sure are hundreds of others. Can't wait for the new design to be completed.

Has there been any update on when the Beacon St reconstruction project will begin? The utility work seems to have died down; I was hoping that they would have started the meat of the project by now.

I wouldn't call it a primo location. Highland Avenue near Davis is pretty lifeless with the exception of Five Horses and it doesn't get nearly the pedestrian traffic that you see on Elm, Holland, and College Ave. Many people heading in that direction will just walk along the community path...

I'm not sure I follow. If you were walking from Alewife to Ball Sq, why would you be near the future Cedar-Lowell stretch of the SCP? You'd just hang a left on Willow, no? I don't see this having a big effect on bike traffic. The Lowell extension of the SCP will be popular with dog-walkers...

Maybe it's just the nice weather we've been having lately, but the bike traffic on the Hampshire/Beacon corridor feels like it has reached another level lately. It has been super busy this week, even relative to normal busy standards. Glad they're finally handling Beacon St next year.

I think a fundamental problem is that the average commuter-type cyclist must be significantly less profitable a customer than the average roadie-type cyclist. I'd bet there's a lot more money to be made selling higher-end road bikes and all the gadgets that are associated with it than there is...
