Hotter than Tabasco sauce: the Boston RE market

Yeah, I would be barging down the door at $900 or even $1000- but if I was going to extend my price range to $2100, I'm pretty sure I could find something larger and nicer. It seems like they're believing the size itself will be a draw (for the person who's rich and whose only possession is an...

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

Re: Driven By Customer 'Service' Parte Dos I noticed today while walking in this morning that the brick sidewalk at Gainsborough and Huntington northbound was all gone in a block, and a folding sign said it was an MBTA worksite and had the URL of the key bus routes page. So I assume some sort...

    Crazy Transit Pitches

It seems to me that if you're going to extend the South Shore extension onto any Red Line branch the best route would be to Weymouth Landing (on Route 53, bus connections, established commercial area, would receive a big boost) and East Weymouth (bus connections, neighborhood has potential...

    Fairmount Line Upgrade

Re: Fairmont Line Upgrade IIRC you do have to buy the specific "Zone 1A" pass (which covers subway and bus), because there is no Charlie on the commuter rail and a standard LinkPass can be gotten on a CharlieCard.

    Bowker Overpass replacement?

There are major downsides to an overpass even if it's replaced with something prettier- stone overpasses are still foreboding and dark underneath. (Though a dramatic arch actually worthy of the Back Bay would be worlds better than what's there now, yes) I would call it highway-era thinking...

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

Re: Driven By Customer 'Service' Parte Dos I took a picture of the Tremont St. Subway (from the Boylston inbound platform) the other day that I thought was neat but wasn't sure where to post it, so here it goes. Didn't realize how sharp the curves entering the station were even from that side-...

    The Orange Line Thread

As far as I know the Southwest Corridor still isn't nearly as bad as the New Haven Line or the Shore Line in that regard- however, if Amtrak ever gets its Connecticut bypass then it could become an impediment for them. Probably too far out to get any support in the immediate period.

Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) in Dorchester?

I have to admire anyone who has the gall to propose an elevated transportation structure through downtown Hingham. Still, the technology seems just like rail or bus for introverts more than anything else- can this really be cost-effective compared to alternatives?

    Reasonable Transit Pitches

This makes sense, however I am concerned that adding additional costs for developers will make them shy away from transit-oriented development... you don't really want a situation where we encourage suburban-style car-dependent buildings just so the developers can claim they don't need to pay the T.

Seaport Neighborhood - Infill and Discussion

Re: Innovation Dist. / South Boston Seaport To be fair, at least the bus is in a grade-separated tunnel, and it's not a long ride to the actual subway at South Station.

    The Orange Line Thread

The way the track layout between Park and Boylston is, the outer tracks are linked to Government Center and the Tremont tunnel (that an F-line would use) and the inner tracks are linked to the Park Street loop and the Boylston St. Subway. I notice that the A and Arborway lines both generally...

Cape Cod Rail, Bridges and Highways

Re: Boston to Cape rail Totally outrageous that a line that until a month ago was basically freight-only (and the dinner train) isn't as fast as the only high-speed rail line in the country, I agree.

    Crazy Transit Pitches

You can't move a station into downtown Hingham because of the infamous Hingham Tunnel. (Interestingly, both New Haven-era stations still stand in Hingham though with major modification- and I believe the parking lot at Station St. also is New Haven-era, but today you would have a lot of local...

    🔷 Open Thread

Random question- I'm looking to move out of my apartment in Brighton in the fall to somewhere closer to Northeastern, and one area that's come up is Mission Hill- what I've heard regarding the area is that anything on the E line itself is totally fine, but don't go that far off of it. Does this...

    Boston is Racist

I see this often, and I think what you're missing is that it's merely a definition problem- the people saying racism is only done by whites are using the word "racism" to refer to overall societal structures that oppress racial groups other than the dominant group, rather than acts of...

    Reasonable Transit Pitches

I don't understand why people are so eager to sacrifice the B-Line between Chestnut Hill Ave. and Washington St. (or in some extreme proposals, Harvard Ave.)- BC runs a shuttle bus to Reservoir for its students that usually provides a faster ride than even the C would anyway, whereas when the...

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

Re: Driven By Customer 'Service' Parte Dos Glad to hear it- I've noticed both the iOS apps I use for tracking (openMBTA and Charlie Radar) have been increasingly unstable lately. (Today I had to resort to Nexmap, which I only bought out of curiosity awhile back)

St Paul's Cathedral Alteration (Nautilus Pediment) | Tremont St | Downtown Crossing

My understanding (which could be wrong) is that landmark rules generally don't apply to churches because of the First Amendment.

    Boston Tram Network

So you're saying to return surface streetcars to downtown? Seems problematic, if only for the reason streetcars were removed from downtown to begin with- the streets are too narrow and crowded with traffic as it is! The Greenway is a possible exception, as is maybe a boulevardized Storrow...
