Hook Wharf | 400 Atlantic Ave | Downtown

If it's a Courtyard Marriott or Hilton Garden Inn I know this wouldn't come into play, but if this were more along the lines of Park Hyatt I wonder if they'd insist on a residential component? It seems like all of the most luxurious hospitality brands in Boston (Mandarin Oriental, Raffles, Four...

Pier 4 Condo Building (Former Anthony's site) | Seaport

I don't have an answer, but that's a great picture! Not sure why, but the Encore peeking out over the top of the industrial buildings really does it for me haha

    The New Retail Thread

Me neither. Home Depot needs people to be able to wheel out large items and put them into a pickup or work truck. It's overwhelmingly used by professional builders or home owners DIY'ing pretty big projects. Beyond there not being sufficient space for that sort of thing in the area, any...

Boston's First CLT Building | 201 Hampden St. | Roxbury

Yeah, the new method of construction seems really, really cool and appears to provide a lot of benefits but it also raises a lot of questions. On top of the scenario you listed, how does the strength of the wood hold up in the event of a bad car accident which leads to a car hitting a major...

Photo of the Day, Boston Style: Part XIV (2020)

It's really beautiful. I'm currently living in Denver and, while it's nice, I'll never be as happy here as I would be in Boston. My wife is from São Paulo and she immediately fell in love with Boston, too. Every time we go back to visit family, we don't want to leave. I miss the intimate...

Pinnacle at Central Wharf (Harbor Garage) | 70 East India Row | Waterfront | Downtown

Get with the times, it's all about ayahuasca these days!

Pinnacle at Central Wharf (Harbor Garage) | 70 East India Row | Waterfront | Downtown

I tweeted to help the ratio, but holy crap I didn't realize this development was such a lightning rod. Hopefully sanity prevails!

    The New Retail Thread

I 100% agree with the sentiment that more people = more safety and it seems like the "concerned neighbors" (who are lying through their teeth about being concerned; they simply don't want this because it doesn't benefit them) lack that basic understanding. When I lived in São Paulo, I made a...

Pinnacle at Central Wharf (Harbor Garage) | 70 East India Row | Waterfront | Downtown

I prefer the 2014 plan, but still think this is very nice. I agree this isn't very "outside the box" compared to NYC's towers, but it's still a good looking building. I also wouldn't call this phoning it in, I'd call it working within strict parameters. This property needs to max out its...

    NYC Architecture and Development

Oh absolutely, I agree. I re-read what I said and I realized the way I phrased it sounds like I'm saying NY isn't experiencing a skyline transformation like Boston...I meant that New York's skyline is changing as dramatically as it did in the 20s/30s. The supertall boom there has been...

[ARCHIVED] Harbor Garage Redevelopment | 70 East India Row | Waterfront | Downtown

Oh yeah, somehow I forgot about that....this has been an incredible cycle for Boston--and really the whole country if you look at some of the developments. New York hasn't seen a skyline transformation like this since the 1920s/1930s.

[ARCHIVED] Harbor Garage Redevelopment | 70 East India Row | Waterfront | Downtown

Don't forget Filene's! It's been awhile but I think that still counts as this cycle, wouldn't it?

The Aubrey | 149-153 Newbury Street | Back Bay

I prefer the color of the original, but the shape of the revision.

Raffles Boston (40 Trinity Place) | 426 Stuart Street | Back Bay

I think it’s also worth noting that while they’ve remodeled historical buildings in other cities, and something similar would vibe well in Boston, this particular location is in the shadow of the Back Bay Station Garage. It’s also in a relatively low foot traffic area, which would be another...

One Kenmore Square | 560 Commonwealth Avenue | Kenmore Square

Great news! Has there ever been any discussion as to what hotel brand would go in here? It seems like it'd be a good place for premium, but not ultra-lux...maybe JW Marriott/Conrad/Pullman? I know those are all very nice, but probably below hotels like St.Regis/Peninsula/Raffles.

Harvard SEC (Science & Engineering Complex) | Western Ave | Allston

Fantastic shots, BeeLine! I think BeeLines first photo in the post above mine is an example of the light you're talking about. I've been very iffy about this one myself but it looks amazing with the direct sunlight from sunset and it even looks cool on the shaded side from that angle. This...

Bulfinch Crossing | Congress Street Garage | West End

Also, are any of those other designs official? I was under the impression they were just placeholders.

    Chick-Fil-A Disappointment

Yes, that was an extremely disappointing thing to see. They weren't going to Chic-fil-a because they like the product, they were doing it to taunt anyone that supported LGBT rights. To me, that's much different than someone just getting some lunch, and it's sad that people can act so childish...

    Chick-Fil-A Disappointment

You're right, I could have written that better. I should have said it shouldn't be any more disappointing than some of the other things I mentioned. There's also nihilism and there's acceptance that the world is a massive place with so many things that are beyond our control. I agree with...
