    Riders demand more commuter rail service

    Looking over the APTA ridership reports, if you compare commuter rail ridership from the Q1 & Q2 in 2003 to Q1 & Q2 in 2013, it is down 13.5%. If looking at full years, 2002 to 2012 registered a drop of 10.4%.

    Re: Driven By Customer 'Service' Parte Dos Just curiosity really. I know it's fairly common on newer rail systems (not so much on legacy rail systems, at least in USA/Canada). And, I agree, it certainly is an option for bus systems as well. Just wondered if anyone was aware of the experience...

    Re: Driven By Customer 'Service' Parte Dos (I don't mean this as a defense of MBTA not using POP.) How many transit systems use Proof of Purchase on buses? Any in USA/Canada? I thought Muni in San Francisco may have switched to that system recently, but am not aware of any others.

    Isolated SS-SLW rail seems wasteful and inefficient (where is the maintenance facility, for one?), particularly considering the tunnel is not yet maxed out on bus capacity. Procure more buses and run them more frequently (whether over the entire SL1/SL2 routes, or just SS-SLW) to add capacity...

    Is the suggestion to keep the SL1 (South Sta-Logan) and SL2 (South Sta-Design Ctr) as buses, but run rail South Sta-Silver Line Way in addition? (First time poster/long time lurker, just want to make sure I understand what is being suggested here.)
