Northeastern University - Institutional Master Plan

Very good news to see BRA taking the side of common sense on this one, but the community leaders are right to say that "there’s still more work to do to keep students from taking over neighborhoods." Northeastern promised 1000 new beds in 2013 within 10 years, and then added over 2,200 students...

Pierce Boston (née The Point )| Boylston St/Brookline Av | Fenway

My guess it that'll be the case. The first of BeeLine's pics from yesterday seem to show the building about at about one third of the current height of the crane, and the building itself is about one third to its final height (9 floors, bottom two being 1.5 times normal size), maybe even less...

Pierce Boston (née The Point )| Boylston St/Brookline Av | Fenway

If you can see the crane now from any particular vantage point, you'll be able to see the building. This will be 30 stories and, what, 370 feet? As someone (kz1000ps?) said a while back, this should anchor the whole area.

    11-21 Bromfield Street | DTX | Downtown

I'm not talking about complaining about the excesses of NIMBY's or whatever. Everyone here does that. I'm talking about broad, extreme, pseudo-philosophical generalizations about large groups of people, which is exactly what you did with that hack quote, and what you did again with that "47%"...

    11-21 Bromfield Street | DTX | Downtown

Is it so unreasonable to want this extreme-right stuff (or any other political ranting) off of a thread about a building?

    11-21 Bromfield Street | DTX | Downtown

Let's leave aside the fact that Rand was a hypocrite, a philosophical dunce, a bad writer, and a sociopath who lived her whole life in a state of extreme arrested development. The point I was making wasn't pro-NIMBY (I'm in favor of this development). It's that Manichean, self-congratulating...

    11-21 Bromfield Street | DTX | Downtown

God, what is going on around here? Can we please have this discussion without quoting some fifth-rate, social Darwinian hack who's spent way too much time reading Ayn Rand? "These people are just losers, and they resent my amazingness." That is the attitude of a child.

Sorry to go OT, but has there been any talk of decking over the highway between between Harrison and Clarendon Streets?

Although another, smaller box would be really funny.

Re: Landmark Center Expansion | Fenway No idea! There's also a thread for those questions ( http://www.archboston.org/community/showthread.php?t=5089 ). Helps keep the heart rate down around here.

    Limited-service Hotel Project | 73 Essex St | Chinatown

There are real problems with ownership in Chinatown, but this is infuriating. You do realize that "Harrison/Tyler/Hudson between Kneeland and Beach" is the heart of Chinatown? That actual, real people live and work there? That they don't want to move out so people like you can enjoy more boring...

    GE Representation Without Taxation "Discussion"

Re: General Electric HQ | Necco St.| Fort Point But don't we already have development? Up to 20 tax free years... I'm really struggling to see the good here.

    11-21 Bromfield Street | DTX | Downtown

Yeah, that's a huge win. Maybe someone better informed can correct me, but it seems like paying $380,000 for each affordable unit that was supposed to be constructed onsite won't result in anywhere near the same amount of units being constructed offsite, because construction costs per unit...

Mission Hill Infill and Small Developments

I agree about the city staying away that stuff, but I think this is a private development.
