An architectural and planning critique of Silicon Valley

    (a) not sure why she praises Google for 300 units of modular housing. That covers ~1-2% of their workforce, a drop in the bucket. A feint in the right direction, but only as part of their plan to increase employment in Mountain View by thousands. (b)...

95 Saint (nee Longwood II) | 95 St. Alphonsus St. | Mission Hill

I see so many 3BRs being treated as 4BRs with ~6 people living there (2 couples in bedrooms, one single in a bedroom, one single in the living room), that I think there is a larger impediment to housing for families than the mix of what is being built.

Seaport Neighborhood - Infill and Discussion

Re: Innovation Dist. / South Boston Seaport listings on craigslist vary from $1500-$2400/month; no detail there about SF you get for those prices and the pictures in the listings are all identical, but it's a data point.

    Silver Line to Chelsea

Obviously, it is another population, but I don't see why Chelsea is worrisome to the Seaport when the Silver Line will already get you from South Station, or with a transfer, from Boston Common. The homeless you see on the common can get to the Seaport pretty easily already. They're there...

    BCEC expansion | Seaport

Still a bad idea. Building more hotels in the area with small meeting spaces that can be used as overflow isn't a terrible idea though. As long as the state reimburses the city of Boston appropriately for the land they transferred.

    🔷 Open Thread

Neighbors are suing over this development. I'm posting in Open Thread because I've seen a lot of backchannel stuff among some believing the result of this will set a precedent for developments across Boston. If they're successful, we may see suits popping up for a lot more projects...

    City Hall Plaza

the video is very clearly made by an alt-right media organization though. And the part relevant to Boston comes from an apolitical TED talk that could just as easily be linked to. I would argue, the TED talk is silly as well, because it relies on a photo of an empty plaza, when I could just as...

    Seaport Transportation

why would they have to add a 3rd rail to any grade crossings? You set up a test track on the area where it is single track. You build a new track from Cabot to Track 61 to the east of the existing tracks, create a junction (slide 10 of...

    61-83 Braintree St | Brighton

Re: 61-83 Braintree st | Brighton lower than continuum allston ( http://continuumallston.com/live/floor-plans-pricing ). This rendering presents a hugely sanitized view of the site and makes me laugh. Reality is a fenced in parking lot for moving trucks without any grass...

For all the supertall fanboys and fangirls, Google London!!!!!

Is Google's new Mountain View headquarters urban? Is Apple's new London headquarters (at Battersea power station) not embracing the urban environment?

It takes discipline, but you can hang pads to protect the walls at least. Protecting ceilings and door ornamentation is more tricky.

    General Infrastructure

Does anyone else face the issue as a cyclist that they cannot trigger the green light at certain intersections? Even worse is when a car pulls up behind, but refuses to get close enough to me to trigger the signal so we can go.

The Harlo (née Skanska Fenway Project (Burger King))| 1350 Boylston Street | Fenway

Re: Skanska Fenway Project (Burger King) | 1350 Boylston Street | Fenway Per the city's assessing, it is the Red Sox for the parking lot, Samuels for Tasty Burger, and the Jara Realty Trust w/ Richard B Ross as Trustee for the USPS sorting facility. I'm assuming that is the same Richard B Ross...
