    ACKS | Alexander Center Kendall Sq. | 50 Binney | E Cambridge

Hey now. Don't forget the new coffee shop on the corner of Binney and 2nd. It's even open five days a week until 5 PM! But yeah, 75/125 is kind of a deadzone at the street, at least until 125 gets filled (With what I've no idea. It's a massive space with no exterior doors, so, not gonna be...

South Station Tower | South Station Air Rights | Downtown

Re: South Station Tower Good luck with that. The current zoning system gives leverage to lots of powerful interests (neighborhood groups, unions, savvy/connected developers, the BPDA itself), to get what they want out of a project. Clear, consistent updated zoning helps no one - except the...

South Station Tower | South Station Air Rights | Downtown

Re: South Station Tower I think a lot of people would agree the Seaport took too long to get started, then once it did start, is building out faster than anyone expected. I also wonder - I wasn't here at the time so not sure how broad their search was - would Vertex have moved to Boston if...

South Station Tower | South Station Air Rights | Downtown

Re: South Station Tower OK. Though I think that would have been an interesting conversation to have with the people who owned land in the Seaport ten years ago. "No. Don't build on your parking lot until we've figured out this super complex skyscraper atop a train station."

South Station Tower | South Station Air Rights | Downtown

Re: South Station Tower The BRA is powerful, but I'm not sure they can force developers to build, nor should they. Also it's no accident that the large-scale stuff that has been built this cycle is mostly residential, not office. Interesting idea that they should have held off on new stuff...

V cool glass. Green like the sea.

South Station Tower | South Station Air Rights | Downtown

Re: South Station Tower Saw this yesterday. https://twitter.com/bytimlogan/status/852627404195495936 Anyone have any idea what might be slowing things down?

Bulfinch Crossing | Congress Street Garage | West End

I believe they've said they can push ahead with the piece across Congress Street- the eastern side of the development - at any time, regardless of if/when they build the office tower. Also I think they have to demolish the garage above Congress in order to get an occupancy (or maybe building)...

Ink Block (Boston Herald) | 300 Harrison Avenue | South End

What are the fire risks in all these wood-frame buildings?

Ink Block (Boston Herald) | 300 Harrison Avenue | South End

True, but the Zakim is much higher up, and the space beneath it much larger and brighter. This is may be the same concept but it's a much more aggressive version of the concept.

Exchange South End ( Boston Flower Exchange) | Albany Street | South End

Nine-tenths of a mile from Back Bay Station, or from Tufts. That's walkable for the hearty urbanist. But it's not nothing.

Exchange South End ( Boston Flower Exchange) | Albany Street | South End

Not "doom." I suspect Abbey will work this out. But it does have some transportation challenges. Those challenges can be overcome, but they will be a hurdle, especially when it comes to landing the size of tenant it'll take to anchor buildings this large. As for the cachet of offices in the...

MIT East Campus - Kendall Square Gateway | Cambridge

Stanford's pretty in a bland-suburban-California sort of way, but no one's picking it over MIT for the architecture. The weather might be a different story.

Exchange South End ( Boston Flower Exchange) | Albany Street | South End

I guess it's walkable to Broadway, but not a nice walk. And we're talking about 1.6 million square feet of office/lab space. That's, what, a few thousand commuters in and out every day? They're sure not all going to make that hike. Transportation will be interesting.

Winthrop Center | 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

Re: 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District All true, but squeezing more property taxes out of the universities is a completely separate issue and won't do much to help make Boston more affordable to middle class families. One thing that might - and what the city is doing - is pushing the...

Winthrop Center | 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

Re: 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District Clearly the tens of thousands of jobs, hundreds of thousands of students and enormous sums of research money our universities bring to town are sucking the life out of this city. Not saying they shouldn't pay PILOTs (Many of them do. And MIT, for...

Lovejoy Wharf | 131 Beverly Street | West End

Yeah. Uber and Zipcar don't work near as well if you have small kids. And if you have small kids, you're going to need to drive at least sometimes.

Wow. Haven't been by there in awhile. That is a large building.

Winthrop Center | 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

Re: 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District Agreed. And looks like it'll get a robust debate, soon. I was just pointing out that the Shadow Law is, in fact, a law, one that was appropriately created and much more clearly spelled out than many of the unwritten rules that often guide...
