    315 on A | 315 A Street | Fort Point

Re: A st Highrise It is worth pointing out that if you live in the South End you have much fewer options for parks. It's "city living" after all. But there will always be those who want Waltham-by-the-sea... sigh.

Re: A st Highrise There are three: - Maritime Park (D Street) - Eastport Park (WTC) - Fan Pier Park (under construction) There are four if you count the adjoining park in front of the Federal Courthouse. If you expand your search to a ten-minute walk, which would be a much more reasonable...

    315 on A | 315 A Street | Fort Point

Re: A st Highrise I want to choose my words nicely, but the above sentence is a huge, massive, gigantic, big, fat lie. In much, much less than one mile you can walk to: - South Boston Maritime park - D Street - Eastport Park - D Street next to WTC East - Westport Park - WTC Blvd, on top of...

    The Clarendon

Does anybody know the difference between "One Back Bay" and "The Clarendon"? I know the Clarendon is condos and 1BB is rentals - but is there an actual difference or just two brands within one building?

    DNA Lofts in Boston

(I live practically next to this building and have all the marketing materials, that's how I have this info BTW) I'm proud of the developer's for taking a chance on this market. I think making such a high-luxury statement was a mistake. Good, quality housing, starting in the low $200s would...

    DNA Lofts in Boston

Same poster, from May 22nd: Today - there's a big sale and prices start... in the mid $200ks!!!! Gotta love real estate brokers! Now, to take off my "I'm a total asshole" hat, let me just say that this is one of the nicest, highest-quality, best residential buildings that I've seen in...

    Dorchester Infill and Small Developments

Re: 93 South Dorchester While driving, with a cell phone... it's an absolutely hideous monstrosity and I might even like it... it's just such a horror it's practically beautiful. The images change from these two to a third with Menino's ugly mug.

    Millennium Tower (Filene's) | 426 Washington Street | Downtown

Re: Filene's Don't you guys know the law regarding LED signs? You can do whatever you want, even in a residential neighborhood you can install a massive, flashing, blinking, Las-Vegas-style billboard. You just have to put the Mayuh on it. Duh. This is the Carpenter's Center, located...

    Rose Kennedy Greenway

Lurker - that's not a bad idea (or to reword, there are many worse ideas). I think the stretches along the Convention Center are where we should have strip clubs and adult entertainment. It's a natural spot for it.

Statler, we agree yet again. Bill Weld was as close to a true Libertarian politician as we'll see around here. He was not a Republican or a Democrat. He was booed off the stage at the RNC, and you're correct about Republicans blocking his nomination to be Mexican ambassador because he was for...

I don't think boycotting Maine will help. Americans have never voted to support gay marriage in any state. Thankfully, in Mass we had Republican Governor (Bill Weld) who gave America gay marriage through his libertarian-minded judges. The law was upheld thanks to Deval Patrick and his promise...

Bulfinch Crossing | Congress Street Garage | West End

Re: Congress Street Garage Development Until papers are signed, nothing is ever "in place" but what I meant was that since some of this project's funding comes from the National Electricians Benefit Fund, it has a stronger chance of surviving in today's market.

Bulfinch Crossing | Congress Street Garage | West End

Re: Congress Street Garage Development Ron, you're absolutely correct regarding market conditions and the impossibility of financing. A difference in this project is that the financing is coming from construction unions, and may (or may not) be in place. It's a more secure source of funding...

Bulfinch Crossing | Congress Street Garage | West End

Re: Congress Street Garage Development I would relax on this... the article John posted was just from a newsletter from group of rich old North End malcontents who live in luxury ivory condos. There is an election tomorrow. Come the spring, all major construction in the City of Boston will...

[ARCHIVED] Harbor Garage Redevelopment | 70 East India Row | Waterfront | Downtown

Re: The Boston Arch (Aquarium parking garage) I just want to revisit one of the original points here... The general, non-politicized FAA-approved map shows that this site can handle a 625' building. Then, the specific, politicized, unusual recommendation is issued that this site can actually...

[ARCHIVED] Harbor Garage Redevelopment | 70 East India Row | Waterfront | Downtown

Re: The Boston Arch (Aquarium parking garage) I believe that one of the most powerful democratic strategists in New England lives in Harbor Towers. No idea if he would even care or worry about this, but Beton's post reminded me of this fact. Something stinky is going on here. The FAA said...

    Can Boston do anything right?

Statler, we are in agreement. The problem as I see it is not the cars/traffic, it's the way the urban environment handles (or fails to handle) the cars/traffic. The solution, as I see it, is not to simply impede cars/traffic but to create solutions that facilitate them in the most unobtrusive...

    Can Boston do anything right?

I sound like a broken record, but I think you're all wrong. We should design cities for cars. Hidden, tucked away, as unobtrusive as possible... but we should design for them. Make cities accessible, easy to navigate, with large parking depots tucked away, wrapped around or under buildings...
