    General Portland Discussion

I believe this is part of the Libbytown Safety and Accessibility Project which has the potential to introduce solid bike infrastructure on Park and Congress. https://content.civicplus.com/api/assets/b6ae60cb-139d-4f32-9c3a-d35941e4452b It’s also related to the project to tie the Union Branch...

The Planning Board recently approved, “an 18-unit multi-family structure along with 21 two-bedroom standalone homes.“ The project is notable for three reasons. 1) The project has a unique layout. From the Planning Board packet, “the 21 two-bedroom homes are arranged in pocket neighborhood...

    Falmouth Shopping Center Redevelopment

I saw this in person for the first time a couple of weeks ago. One of the better instances of suburban infill I’m aware of in ME. Post #13 shows one of two buildings that are of a similar size and front on Route 1. Their size really surprised me! An all around positive change for this part of...

As of 12/16, the apartment building photographed in post #64 has most of the roof on it. The asymmetry is a pleasant change of pace. The three apartment buildings between Enterprise and Gurnet at the end of Coral Drive referenced in post #59 are nearly complete. They all look similar, here’s...

    Portland International Jetport | PWM

I’m not disputing your assessment of who attended the meeting or their motives, @Portlander. However, that doesn’t invalidate my statement that it’s possible for reasonable people to have diverging opinions about this. I don’t live near the airport, I’m not convinced this is the best solution...

    Portland International Jetport | PWM

I think reasonable people can disagree about whether this is “positive development”. It’s great to see increased use of the Jetport. Perhaps it’s time to seriously explore alternatives for arriving to and departing from PWM that better align with Maine and Portland’s stated sustainability goals.

Just a few more screen grabs of slides from the presentation. The presenters noted that the granite facade of the academic building is intended to be an homage to the Bailey Island Bridge. They also drew attention to the use of mass timber seen in the third screen shot included below. They...

Update from the PPH today on this project: “In a 7-1 vote, the [Brunswick town] council approved selling the building to Portland-based Developers Collaborative for $200,000. The company plans to spend $3.5 million to redevelop the 1919 building on Town Hall Place, converting it into Moderation...

Economic & Demographic Trends: Maine & Portland

You might find this recent study, Maine Population Outlook 2020-2030, both interesting and surprising. It was produced by the Office of the State Economist and they are projecting meager growth in Cumberland County compared to York and Kennebec counties. They also predict that Portland’s...
