Union Square Somerville Infill and Small Developments

Narrows a bit? How often do you walk this section? Maybe as just a single guy walking alone it's ok but I do it with a dog sometimes and I fear for our lives. I shudder to think if I was physically disabled or had children with me. If a car skips a curb there is absolutely nowhere to go. Even...

Union Square Somerville Infill and Small Developments

Nobody disputes that the apartments are walking distance from Union Square - albeit a crappy walk that makes it feel more removed than it is distance wise. The problem is that a lot of businesses in the area actually use Union Sq in their address. This makes sense seeing that it can be confusing...

Union Square Somerville Infill and Small Developments

I'm guessing it's to hide the fact that it's not in Union Square at all but a rather unpleasant walk away on a very narrow sidewalk that's puts you inches away from a busy travel lane for cars.

Porter Square Infill and Small Developments

    The sidewalk outside this building (formerly housing Miso Market) is fenced off, a temporary one has been placed in the street with jersey barriers. I guess that means demolition is imminent? Also, here is an angle on the hotel going up next to Christopher's;

I think that figure is for the apartment tower closer to the T station that should be opening soon. I don't know the exact height figures on Partners but it's probably closer to 150-200', though in terms of sq footage it will be bigger. It just looks bigger because it towers over everything else...

Jamaica Plain Infill and Small Developments

It's not necessarily too small, though something like this will probably never happen; On a somewhat separate note, I don't understand what this city's aversion to attached housing is, from either a historical perspective or the present day. I get that you need driveways and garages but why...

Jamaica Plain Infill and Small Developments

I like the architecture of the Ophir condos but why is there such massive gaps in between the buildings? It looks from the pictures like it's paved aka surface parking. Seems like a waste of space to me.

Maybe ask the homeless guy always hanging out by that massive vent next to the side walk. I don't think it's always the same guy but there is always somebody! Seriously though, this is an interesting question.

    Cambridge Infill and Small Developments

Yea but this "study" came from Corlone who is extremely anti development. He might be a smart guy with good ideas but I don't trust him at all, it feels like he used his background in urban planning to glom onto Cambridge's NIMBY wing and get elected. Granted I don't think his opponents (like...

I shot some video and have been playing around editing the footage, so far this is what I've got; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SCN8urmid20 I did zero sound editing so might be best to watch it silent.

Union Square Somerville Infill and Small Developments

It's something like 10-12 stories so probably not much more than 120'. So we'd be looking at something almost twice as tall. Pretty sure they'd have to re-zone the area around the T station as well cause last I checked that area only allowed as high as 100'.

MBTA Winter 2015: Failure and Recovery

What's great about that graphic is that the biggest snowfall came in the first storm on what, Jan 27th? So basically this month, and that was some 27 inches. So that line should be about a third taller. Also interesting to note, almost all the snow from 2013 came from a single storm. I don't...

Photo of the Day, Boston Style: Part VIII (2015)

I don't know about others but I haven't been able to take many pictures because it's too god damn cold out to walk around. Which is too bad because I'm sure the city scape is looking pretty interesting with all this snow on the ground.

MBTA Winter 2015: Failure and Recovery

Re: MBTA & Regular Driving May Be Shut Down During Coming Snowstorm! I don't think the San Francisco comparison is any good. There is pretty much zero chance they get 6 inches of snow let alone 70. It snows on average in SF about once every 15 years and they recently went 35 years between...

MBTA Winter 2015: Failure and Recovery

Re: MBTA & Regualr Driving may be Shut Down During Coming Snowstorm! Last winter is the worst I can I remember because it lasted for such a long time. As somebody with severe seasonal depression, I'd rather get slammed with a succession of big snowstorms like 2010-'11 and have it cut off...

    Somerville Infill and Small Developments

Drove by this building tonight and noticed it's just a pile of rubble. Any clue as to what's supposed to be here? I really hope it's at least five stories of residential with a retail base. Right now it's just a massive open space in the midst of what should be a bustling urban corridor. The...

    MA Casino Developments

Assembly is going to get some height that will be comparable to the Casino, so that will mitigate this effect somewhat.
