    Boston Street Layouts

You're both right. Dover Street was renamed Berkeley to upgrade its image. This was prior to the gentrification/general clean-up that has since taken place in the SOWA (my use of that acronym should not imply that I like it) area.

    neat urban planning stuff

^^^ John. Thanks for that trip to dystopia - now wondering what project to bill that hour to??? Seriously - awesome post as always. Two things that will now will plague me: a) why did Ed Logue play squash in a "skort"; and b) whatever happened to Chiffon?

    Manchester Infill & Small Developments

Mine too! I saw all three of the original Star Wars movies there; all three of which were followed by lunch at Blakes. The mall was just so dang functional and straight-forward...no crazy decor or themes going on...ah the good ol' days.

Photo of the Day, Boston Style: Part IV (2011)

Bingo. Bain is the tenant moving from 111 to the Hancock. I'm pretty sure it's happening sooner than 2014, but I couldn't say when exactly.

Amazing shit other cities get that Boston doesn't

Egad - send that monstrosity back to Dubai where it belongs. czsz - "slowly" must be the operative word regarding the West Side Hwy. I've been travelling that road quite a bit over the course of the last few months. The only thing that could be deemed "futuristic" is Gerhy's IAC building -...

GrandMarc Residence Hall (YMCA) @ Northeastern U | 291 St. Botolph Street | Fenway

Re: YMCA/ Northeastern Dorm (formerly GrandMarc at St. Botolph) There's philosophy embedded in this statement...I have to put down my architectural toys and go chew on this for a while.

Re: Developer plans $300M project for Fenway Paul - that's a different block than this project.

    Northeastern eyes dorms

Thank you, statler; you beat me to the punch there... Tom, you would also have to take away the legal and financial industries...which are no small "industries" here. Also, I'm not sure I would qualify the demographics on Newbury or Hanover or Tremont in the South End as a Dunkin Donuts...

    Rose Kennedy Greenway

Yes, I agree: let's not confuse dark/noisy/dirty/smelly with hopeful. I work on Canal Street; our office faced the mountain of ramps that ascended to the Charles River crossing...there's no amount of retail that could have been jammed under those structures that could have been superior to the...

Tree House Residence Hall Tower @ MassArt | 578 Huntington Avenue | Fenway

Re: Mass Art Dormitory She's well out of the ground now. Steel is up to the 2nd floor as of 11:00 last night... I'm not as skilled as you, Boston02124, driving and taking pics...I'll have to leave that job in your capable hands.

Liberty Mutual Tower | 157 Berkeley Street | Back Bay

Re: Liberty Mutual plans major Boston expansion John - I'm a huge fan of your posts, but this one - wow, seriously? Firstly - How do shadows have a detrimental impact on historic buildings? Secondly - seriously? You're seriously considering picking a fight over small shadow that lasts for...

50 Post Office Sq (Fomer Verizon Building Tower)

Re: Verizon Building Tower ^^^you need to do a little fact-checking with your horticultural guide: there's not a single ginkgo between north station and south station. The wharf parcels are rife with a variety of tree species including evergreens and birch and ash and maple and sycamore and...

    Rose Kennedy Greenway

To answer your question: I am and do. My office is in the Bulfinch Triangle, and pre-Greenway days, I would eat lunch at my desk. Now, I frequently will go out to the north end parks for lunch and many times will walk the entire length of the Greenway, taking the T back...much better than...

    Rose Kennedy Greenway

^^^ For the life of me, I couldn?t figure out what annoyed me most about this city. Now I know: it?s all those damned families. Absolutely, why in the world would the city invest in public art to celebrate an award winning children?s book? We all know that young adults pay homage to public...

Liberty Mutual Tower | 157 Berkeley Street | Back Bay

Re: Liberty Mutual plans major Boston expansion I'm not sure that I entirely agree with this. The commercial/office spine between Boylston and Columbus is a pretty narrow strip flanked by the Back Bay to the north and the South End to the south. ...seems like there's quite a bit of...

    Rose Kennedy Greenway

Construction has officially started on the visitors center. I'm sure the renderings are somewhere in this thread.
