Blackstone buildings in line for ground floor rehabs.

Unlike the renovations at 1 Boston Place, none of the 3 Blackstone lobbies are adding retail space. An educated guess: the increase in lobby size is purely driven by building impact and image. A bigger lobby means more building common area, which, when apportioned among all the tenants...

Bulfinch Crossing | Congress Street Garage | West End

Re: Gov't Center Garage Redevelopment The substation is on a little "U" shaped street right behind the police stantion and the Boston Sports Club - Hawkins Street, I believe. You'd never see it unless you wandered back there...and there's very little reason to wander back there. Maybe I'm...

Blackstone buildings in line for ground floor rehabs.

Next time you're near one of these lobbies take a closer look. There's nothing cheap about these build-outs, and don't be fooled by the glass curtain walls. These in particular are likely to have been much more expensive than "conventional" facades.

    Rose Kennedy Greenway

...which puts us on a par with the purveyors of gloom and doom. So this begs the question: what qualities make a park success? Because it seems to me these parks qualify: Thoughtful, interesting landscaping with 4 season interest: Fountain frolickers: yes Pretty girls in bikinis: mhmm Lunch...

    Rose Kennedy Greenway

The Greenway doesn't look like shit. It looks young/immature and needs architectural infill on the edges...come on...this was finished when...all of 18 months ago? Very tall trees are exactly what the parks need, but the thing about trees...they grow. Planting/transplanting mature (>50')...

    Boston Common Overhaul

I can see how you might misunderstand my post. I should have added that I DO LIKE this type of non-permanent programming ? which is different than full scale restaurants and dog parks. The current layout of the Common lends itself to this type of changeable programming?and it?s this inherent...

    Boston Common Overhaul

Maybe I'm alone in this opinion, but I?m really tired of hearing about the lack of programming for our open space. Have our collective attention spans really decreased to the point where we need someone to suggest to us how to use every square inch of open space??? There's already cafe space...

    Millennium Tower (Filene's) | 426 Washington Street | Downtown

Re: Filene's The tower/high rise piece is on Franklin Street, straddling equally Washington and Hawley. The Summer Street portion stays within the existing facade's massing.

    W Hotel | 100 Stuart St | Theater District

Re: W Hotel ^ yeah...it's wierd. The glass on the back is really inelegant. I don't get it. Like 45 Province: one side is nicely detailed; the other side has issues. Does anyone have any theories as to why they'd do this?

Re: The last empty lot CBT This is the kind of thing that CBT does very well...Niketown for example.

    Rose Kennedy Greenway

You missed a number of other items that the $15B+ paid for: the Tip O'Niel Tunnel (THE tunnel), the Ted Williams Tunnel, the Lenny Z Bridge, the Leverett Connector, the South Boston Haul Road, capping/landscaping Spectacle Island, restoring Rumney Marsh, just to name a few...so "exhorbitant" -...

Mandarin Oriental | 776 Boylston St | Back Bay

Re: Mandarin Oriental It's not new...it's the same ol' Pru loading dock entry now pulled to the right up to the sidewalk. It was formerly set way back, located to the left side of the old Star Market (for those of you who remember the Star Market). It's big enough to accommodate a full size...

Atlantic Wharf (née Russia Wharf) | Atlantic Ave | Waterfront

Re: Russia Wharf I hear that the construction method will be "Up-Down" - I don't think we've seen this since Rowes Wharf was built.

One Boston Place ground floor redesign

The "old one" included a barren plaza and a forboding first floor fortress (how's that for alliteration!). The new work is, at the very least, much more pedestrian friendly.

    Northeastern eyes dorms

I was by this building today and have to say that this is truly one mean and ugly building. Approaching it from Columbus it's at its best; Columbus finally feels like it has a real termination point instead of fizzling out into vacant lots, and as has been previously said, the white tower...

Photo of the Day, Boston Style - Part Deux

This last image could have been painted by Edward Hopper...beautiful, lonely, evokative...Hopper-esque. You have some skill (understatement) with a camera, Briv. Keep 'em coming.

Shreve, Crump & Low Redevelopment | 334-364 Boylston Street | Back Bay

Re: Shreve, Crump & Low bldng may be replaced w/ new develop After reading the article, I was excited to see what a "delicate", "modern contextual", "very Bostonian" building by Pelli would look like...one word: ugh! Where's the "delicate"??? Where's the "very Bostonian"??? To replace the...
