Skylines and Developments of the US/World

Yes, there are some blocks downtown but walk a few blocks in any direction and it's parking lots and single story buildings. Wouldn't you prefer urban fabric over a supertall tower surrounded by suburbia? You seem to be more on the urbanist team vs the skyscraper gawkers. So to rephrase my...

Skylines and Developments of the US/World

Austin is a low density sprawl fest. If someone thinks this makes any sense, then please help me understand. Thanks.

It's nice to see a ground floor that doesn't remind me of shopping in a "lifestyle center".

    Crazy Highway Pitches

Over in the BU master plan thread there was brief discussion of a deck over Storrow near the bridge. I like this idea so thought I'd drop it here for others to chime in

    BU Institutional Master Plan 2023

10 Deerfield is a hole in the middle of Kenmore. It's bothered me for decades and has held the number one spot on my wishlist for infill, despite my general apathy towards the area in recent years.

    Allston-Brighton Infill and Small Developments

I think as long as they can manage adequate turn lanes then the lane reduction will work fine. But based on the limited details in the presentation, the intersection at Everett St and also near Eliot Bridge seem like they will be choke points. Getting rid of legacy highway designs and paved...

    Quincy General Developments

Quincy developers really miss the mark. This massing is horrible. It looks like a shopping center with everything clustered around the suburban lawn, totally surrounded by acres of asphalt. I presume the neighbors wanted that as a buffer.

    119 Braintree Street | Allston

I think the only way to eliminate, or minimize, the effect of a highway through an urban area is to build over it or wall it off from the local streets with taller than average buildings.

It's eleven stories, which was the magic number proposed by Ablarc.

When did BU acquire the iconic Trailer-Park-in-the-Sky Building on Beacon? The stack of books has some fierce competition on campus.

    "Dirty Old Boston"

I had no idea that former HoJo's on Comm Ave was ever not a HoJo's prior to dorm conversion.

    Quincy General Developments

This is the only place I know of to find projects. I don't see anything listed in that area, unless I'm missing it. Otherwise you could email the city. They are usually responsive. https://www.quincyma.gov/departments/planning_and_community_development/planning/index.php

    Quincy General Developments

From the developer that did the Abby at North Quincy, we have this approved development at 269 Centre St, near Quincy Adams T stop. A parking lot right in front and everything, yay.

Middle East Nightclub Redevelopment | 468-480 Mass Ave / 6 Brookline St. | Cambridge

The further out you go, the harder it is be accessible to a critical mass of people to create a "scene". Aside from that, high cost of living *everywhere* and expensive rents are not usually compatible with a healthy scene.

    New England independence

The dividing line will show up where economic ties are weakest, therefore drawing the line at New England is arbitrary. If we're having some alt history fun then throw in all areas that are part of the economies of the cities of the Northeast Corridor... and extend the green line to Albany.

    "Dirty Old Boston"

Seen these pictures of Boston looking like Rotterdam post WW2 countless times, but highlighting all that remains today is really tough to digest, also knowing it still continues today with the demolition of the last buildings of the West End officially planned.
