Sorry - I somehow got into my head that you were talking about the Quest Diagnostics building in Central (really, Lafayette) Square in Cambridge.

The one thing you left out of the article: just a few years after the Publick Theatre company relocated to the South End, it disbanded entirely.

Unfortunately, the US didn't choose the best solution to this problem -- which would have been to let Citibank, Bank of America, and the other mega-banks fail instead of bailing them out.

I'd argue for replacing "Despite" by "In part, because of". That light industrial area, stretching east to behind Target and west to Tyler Street and Properzi Way, is full of little local businesses, shared-work environments, artists studios, and the like. Think of Artisan's Asylum...

Historically, there was a hotel on Bow Street, according to old-timers here.

Winthrop Square dates to the founding of Cambridge in the 1630s, so I can't fault wanting to give special design attention to any development proposals that front on it.

Re: Somerville Soccer Stadium I don't see an indoor arena and an outdoor stadium as competitors, any more than Harborlights is competition for the Garden. Different experiences entirely.

Do you recall what the 'quirky' building was used for? I've biked through there hundreds of times, yet somehow never noticed it until it was suddenly gone.

I-93 isn't going anywhere, but the city and state made a mistake in widening Route 28 next to Assembly Square. A good long-term plan would be to reduce this back to its original four lanes.
