Meadow Glen Mall Redevelopment | Medford

There isn't much in the way of "walkable demographics" here. The nearest residential area, South Medford, is across I-93 and the Mystic River, not a pleasant walk.

Meadow Glen Mall Redevelopment | Medford

Possibly relevant fact: McDonald's in Meadow Glen Mall closed a few weeks ago.

Meadow Glen Mall Redevelopment | Medford

How so? Shaw's failure only means that people didn't want to shop at Shaw's. Maybe it was too expensive compared to Stop & Shop and other nearby markets? One of the employees of this Shaw's told me that Market Basket has run out of capital. They have been unable to finish and open a new...

New England Revolution Stadium | 173 Alford Street | Boston-Everett

Re: Somerville Soccer Stadium And it's a building left over from First National Stores, which I believe built it as a warehouse. I'd rather not tear it down, but the parking lots surrounding it are surely dispensable.

    Boston in the 1960's

Was the purpose of these (Whittier Street) towers to house medical students, doctors, or other employees of the nearby hospitals?

Re: Somerville Soccer Stadium They're certainly not going to get rid of any part of Assembly Square Drive, which was just rebuilt and is the only road into the area from the rest of Somerville.

New England Revolution Stadium | 173 Alford Street | Boston-Everett

Re: Somerville Soccer Stadium The Somerville News Weekly is a ridiculous rag, with no editing whatsoever. I would not take anything in it at all seriously. That said, there is a lot of empty land (parking lots) next to the defunct Loews cinema. If you demolish the cinema and the Circuit City...

    Bowker Overpass replacement?

The Mass Pike extension from Allston to downtown wasn't designed with the idea that it might some day be extended further east to the South Boston waterfront and Logan Airport. And that second extension is why we now need eastbound on-ramps and westbound off-ramps that weren't in the original...

    Bowker Overpass replacement?

That's why I suggested a left-entry ramp, to avoid the railroad-tracks problem entirely.

    Bowker Overpass replacement?

It shouldn't -- that's why we have a Green Line and a Yawkey commuter rail station.

    Bowker Overpass replacement?

So why not this: a 90-degree right turn from the overpass onto a ramp that enters eastbound Mass Pike on the left (at the median)? Maybe even paired with a corresponding left exit from the westbound Pike, sharing most of the same structure?

    Bowker Overpass replacement?

Is there possibly room to have exit or entrance ramps at the median (left-side) instead of on the right? I've seen this configuration in downtown Chicago.

    Bowker Overpass replacement?

Interstate highway standards are designed for the wide-open spaces of the West. I would hope a congested Eastern city could be exempted from them for the sake of conserving valuable land.

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

Re: Driven By Customer 'Service' Parte Dos Is the T perhaps too quick to declare a train "disabled" when it has only a minor mechanical problem that could wait until the end of the day (or at least the end of the run) to fix?

    Bowker Overpass replacement?

Ipswich St. is also by far the best way to bicycle between Back Bay and the Fenway. Leave it alone please!

    Next big highway project?

Would it help to just extend Route 3 a quarter mile or so southeast to a new Y-intersection with Lowell Street/Middlesex Turnpike somewhere near the Burlington-Lexington town line? Maybe where the Adams Street intersection is today? Once you do that, you can turn the trumpet interchange back...

    Bowker Overpass replacement?

Letting it gradually fall apart will eventually result in demolition by neglect. That is a desirable outcome that the neighborhood should advocate. It has the advantage of costing nothing at all until the overpass actually fails inspection.

I haven't noticed Hubway being politically controversial, beyond "why hasn't it come to [Neighborhood X] yet?"

Infill in that strip mall parking lot would help the area immensely.
