COVID-19 Impacts on Logan, MBTA, and Boston travel and tourism

That's only equitable if you also barricade the roads and highways, which I haven't heard mentioned anywhere despite the numerous references I've read to shutting down public transit. Otherwise you're just forcing low-income riders to spend a lot more to get where they need to go, without making...

MBTA "Transformation" (Green Line, Red Line, & Orange Line Transformation Projects)

Good read. It is a bizarre station, so small that the trains departing literally don't fit, but I agree with assessment that until/if we get a proper connector there's no reason not to have it open, especially since the trains need to turn around there anyway. Needs to go once red/blue is built...

    MBTA Construction Projects

I feel like green line-style service along Grand Junction to Sullivan would be a great use of that space if they ever stopped being used for freight. Would obviously take work to reconfigure the tracks to separate them from the main rail network but that sounds a lot more practical than running...

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

WCVB did a couple videos showing off the inside of the MBTA control center downtown. It's a pretty shallow dive even by TV news standards but it's the most I've ever gotten to see inside other than just a picture or two. https://www.wcvb.com/article/go-inside-the-nerve-system-of-mbta/31094608...

    General Infrastructure

(Assuming the discussion stays here) Why do gondolas keep coming up in Boston transit discussions? Is this something other cities have actually implemented successfully with good cost/throughput? Or is a matter of people looking at trains/buses as only having problems thanks to the T's...

    MBTA Construction Projects

The level of detail they're providing here is really commendable, and it's all well organized so you can look at the lines you care about and skip by the ones you don't. Whoever's handling their website and copywriting is doing a great job. The only part I question is the times they estimate...

Regional New England Rail (Amtrak & State DOT & NEC)

Good for the Downeaster. Though I do wonder how much of that can be attributed to the increased number of special sales I've seen Amtrak running in the past year. I personally took the Downeaster for the first time last year primarily because I got the tickets in a BOGO sale.

Ah interesting, hadn't considered the signal infrastructure. Why would it clear up at the top of the bridge then? I'd be surprised if a new signal block started right there (although it's a lot harder to see them on Red like you can on Green so... maybe it does?)

Hurley Building Redevelopment | 19 Staniford St | West End

Maybe the answer is that it wasn't in scope for this study, but why does the site boundary remain exactly the same even if the part of the building facing Cambridge St is demoed? I feel like squaring it off with the street would make for better use of the overall footprint, given there's already...

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

Anyone happen to know why the red line trains leave Charles/MGH northbound so... awkwardly? As in, going onto the bridge they start then stop every few seconds, slowly, until the reach the top, then they go back to normal speed. Seems to have been pretty consistent lately, not just one driver or...

MBTA "Transformation" (Green Line, Red Line, & Orange Line Transformation Projects)

Regarding the Park St loop, has anyone (MBTA or otherwise) explored how catastrophic it would be to just get rid of the loop entirely and just redirect trains after GC? That loop seems to be a lot bigger on maps and isn't so much father away that I could see the extra few minutes impacting...

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

Replacing the floating slabs seems to be an annual ritual at this point. Anyone know why this has to be done so often? I get that rubber probably wears out a lot faster than other materials, but if a slab's lifetime is 1-2 years that seems like a fundamental flaw in the project's design.
