City Hall Plaza Revamp | Government Center

Looks like the crane is for dismantling the mystery tunnel. I still don't understand the shape of it.

City Hall Plaza Revamp | Government Center

The one parallel to the JFK must be the green line? I have been really confused by the drastic vertical changes in it though, which don't make sense if it is the green line tunnel only. The one that goes off toward the JFK definitely connects into what I am suspecting to be the green line. I am...

City Hall Plaza Revamp | Government Center

Below is always how I envisioned fixing the plaza issue. The areas I call out as pedestrian streets should have the look and feel of streets that once were in the is area, but I do not see any reason to open them up to vehicular traffic. The events space of the plaza would be confined down to...

    Redesign Government Center

MOD EDIT: This cool redesign was originally posted over in Development Projects. Definitely relevant to this thread. Below is always how I envisioned fixing the plaza issue. The areas I call out as pedestrian streets should have the look and feel of streets that once were in the is area, but I...

Rutherford Avenue to go on a diet!

I am not going to claim I actually know the answer to if it was NIMBYS or an error in layout of the bike lanes that caused the removal, but I would like to point out that the Boson Cyclists Union article was from 2010 and they resurfaced Main Street in 2011 and shortly after added the bike lanes...

    Biking in Boston

They added the hatching to separate the bike lane. This has helped to the extent that cars form only one line, but as soon as they have gone around the corner far enough to see 2 lanes ahead on Cambridge Street they quickly go back to forming two lanes even though this means they are cutting...

    Biking in Boston

I couldn't tell what was going on when I saw the new lane markings when I was walking in. It is a little more apparent when you see it from above like this, but as you can see from the cars, they can't tell what to do either. Right now the cars are treating this new bike lane as a too small...

Quabbin & MWRA Water & Sewer

It looks like the lots follow an old stone wall. My guess would be a farmer in the 1800s thought he was building his wall along the town line, but oops. "but oops" explains a lot of property/town/country line anomalies.

Bill Russell Bridge | North Washington St.

You're right. So why no sharrow markings outbound?

Bill Russell Bridge | North Washington St.

That's really weird about the bike lane being inbound only and super wide. It almost looks wide enough for a 2 direction bike lane on that one side. That bicyclist in your picture with the 2 cars coming up behind them is going to feel super pinched in a few seconds.

    Biking in Boston

I was really confused you guys couldn't find the video because it was the one that popup right at the top of that twitter post when I clicked on it yesterday. I just clicked on it and all the videos in that thread on twitter are different. I can't even find the video I was referencing now to...

    Biking in Boston

First of all, I am a huge biking advocate. Almost as much a biking advocate as a pedestrian rights advocate. But, right at the end of that video the bike line turns to a shared right turn/bike lane. Shouldn't the person on the bike have gotten into the back of that queue and waited their turn to...

    Crazy Highway Pitches

Put Route 1 underground from City Square in Charlestown to Spruce Street in Chelsea. Connect Chelsea street back to Chelsea with a draw bridge over the mystic and include bike and bus only lanes. Aside: I was in the Navy Yard the other day and had a couple (obviously from another country) ask...

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

So the shuttles are going to run right past Chinatown Station and Station Street Station and not stop just because they aren't redline stops? And its going to stop at Federal and Franklin and call that a stop at Downtown Crossing? This is just lazy planning.

Uber & Lyft as a source of congestion

Sure, I could take the Silver line to South Station then either walk to Milk Street and pick up the bus or take the Red to the Orange to the Bus which is absolutely ridiculous but if I am traveling with a couple of small children and carrying their car seat, the route with least walking is...

Uber & Lyft as a source of congestion

Has a study even been done specifically for Logan regarding Lyft and Uber? Can MassPort even prove that ride share is causing the congestion? How many of the people using Lyft and Uber would have gotten a ride from a friend, taken a taxi, or driven and parked at the airport? I suspect that a...

Uber & Lyft as a source of congestion

They are moving the Uber and Lyft to Central Parking for all terminals. They will still allow you to do curbside drop off and pick up if you self identify in the app that you have a disability. What constitutes a disability? Is traveling with kids in a car seat count as a disability for the...

    Ode to Brutalism

I love how you can see the rolodex on the desk in this one. Someone probably sits here everyday and pretends it is still 1974. Sometimes I wish it still was 1974.
