    Paul Rudolph's Government Services Center

The GSB is not a pretty building, but portions of it are exceedingly beautiful and it remains one of my favorite buildings in Boston. The Staniford/New Chardon corner facade is disastrous, but like so many buildings of that era could be largely improved with some BPL type renovations to help...

    General Infrastructure

It's idiotic for the City not to have the walk phase on automatic recall at this location. The number of people crossing here at anytime is likely near equal to the number of vehicles traveling through. The City should treat it's people far better. Eff the beg buttons, fix it proper!

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

Active tracks, demo the existing, build the new, all without causing major disruptions to headway times. Even if they single track the line around the station, it means that they can only work on one track at a time. If it was being built along tracks that were completely closed, then two...

New Red and Orange Line Cars

I agree that the destination signs mounted on the windows look absurdly huge. As far as clutter, I think that has to do a lot with the safety yellow railings; I notice the same thing on the brand new buses. While I like the fold-up seats for wheelchair and strollers, I would really like to see...

    MBTA Buses & Infrastructure

A great many streets in Boston that bus lines running on 10' travel lanes, including Washington Street in Roslindale. To be fair, the dedicated bus lanes on Washington St in the South End are 11', but so are the travel and turn lanes and the parking lanes are over 8' wide. Buses (and tractor...

Jackson Square Infill and Small Developments

Seriously disappointment in that covered parking structure - call it what you will, it's a crying shame that it was built within 1/4 mile of an Orange Line stop. It's not even designed to be converted into a more than one-story building in the future, a terrible use of good urban land.

    Chinatown - Progress or Gentrification?

Shoulda walked through it 25-30 years ago; it's a vast improvement. Unless you prefer a neighborhood where prostitutes, and drug dealers rule streets at night as they once did.

Lovejoy Wharf | 131 Beverly Street | West End

Many MEP systems (Mechanical aka heating ventilating, and Air conditioning, Electrical, Plumbing) such as Boilers, Chillers and complex electrical systems are far better off located inside buildings where they can be maintained and monitored easily. In the past these items were frequently...

New Red and Orange Line Cars

Re: Orange vs Purple The orange line has scheduled headways of 6 minutes during peak hours from 6:30-9:00am or 20 trains. The Commuter Rail has four inbound trains at 06:36 07:11 08:03 08:33. It also tends to be crowded, standing room only on rainy days, by the time it reaches Roslindale...

No need to worry, neither line will be extended before these new cars are on the verge of retirement.

    Biking in Boston

Anderson had water and gas lines reworked so as not to preclude a future underpass but an underpass wasn't part of the original bid scope and it wasn't added to the project. I don't know about the other bridges, my hope is that they will also be reconstructed to not preclude future underpasses.

    Biking in Boston

The underpasses were not included in the 2017-2021 MassDOT Capitol Improvement Plan. In a 1 to 3 rating system, MassDOT classified only bike and ped improvements were rated as tier 3, all other type of projects were given preference.

    Biking in Boston

Well, some of that appears to be from last construction season - both Mountfort St (Fenway) and Walter St in Rozzie were done earlier this year. I haven't ridden the other streets in a some time.

Actually they are covered by the Public Improvement Commission, the all-powerful commission, that is in charge of any physical change to the public right-of-way - they don't review striping and might not review flex posts. They have been having hearings (10am Tuesdays on the 8th floor of City...

    MBTA Buses & Infrastructure

ADA and MassAAB covers a lot more than just elevators. The upgrades include accessible bathrooms for workers, handrail adjustments, doors, thresholds, accessible counters and controls, signage, platform height (apparently not quite in spec with ADA/AAB) and other issues. As for timing, the...

    MBTA Buses & Infrastructure

The old bus canopy was demolished to make way for traffic relief on Washington/South Street - allowing room to fit new turning lanes in and also to get the bus exit from the bus station to be distant from the Washington/South Street intersection. The new upper busway is expanded to handle at...

    Decking the Mass. Pike.

Ddn't they try this before; with the Rose Kennedy Greenway? Even in this red-hot building boo, non one's looking at those build-able parcels.

New FBI Headquarters | Everett Avenue | Chelsea

With all the security fencing, bollards, and anti-vehicle measures it's hard to believe that the FBI used to work in an urban building in an actual city. I don't mind the building so much, but the landscaping says stay away. It doesn't bring anything to Chelsea; being a government building I...

The Residences at Forest Hills | 3694 Washington Street | Jamaica Plain

Here, here! But I'm OK with letting the area build up a bit more slowly. Definitely need the single story retail to be turned into multi-story with residential above, the problem is that some of those single story buildings have rather beloved restaurants in them and demolishing them all to...
