The Residences at Forest Hills | 3694 Washington Street | Jamaica Plain

Pretty much agree with Clayville, we both fought for a better Casey. Buildings B and C set a bad precedent for anything along the Arborway/Jamaica Way/Riverway by allowing the building to be built to the lot line. A far better approach would be to hold both of these buildings off far enough...

Quabbin & MWRA Water & Sewer

I moved to Boston in 1996. At some point in the later 90's MWRA water started tasting better and by, say 2005, I didn't even taste the need to filter my water anymore. I now think that MWRA water is quite fine and I don't buy bottled or even filter my water anymore.

One Greenway (Parcel 24) | 0 Kneeland Street | Chinatown

On the left side is the stair tower, it's just that the steel stairs haven't been installed yet that makes it look so odd. The contractor may block the open side off with CMU (concrete block) or fill it in with shaftwall or other fire rated drywall framed partition. The right side contains the...

Quabbin & MWRA Water & Sewer

Well, I moved to Boston's South End from a town in north central mass with it's own well water and it took time before I could drink the water, so yes it was MWRA water, not Cambridge. I remember seeing signs at company coffee pots telling people to use the Poland Spring water and not the tap...

Quabbin & MWRA Water & Sewer

Well Whiggy, I remember just hot bad coffee could taste when made with the old MWRA water flavored by Canada Geese whose droppings enhanced the nature of the Watchusett Reservoir (the geese fed on landfills outside the Watchusett drainage area but squatted on the Watchusett) - it tasted like...

Photo of the Day, Boston Style: Part IX (2016)

The "random medians" on Causeway Street are a center running bi-directional cycle track. It's part of the Connect Historic Boston Project that will provide separated bike lanes from Cambridge St, down Staniford, to Causeway, down Beverly, under the North Washington Street Bridge and back to...

    MBTA Buses & Infrastructure

A few people pushed the Boston City Council and BTD at today's Council's Hearing on Parking to restrict parking on highly congested corridors to create bus/bike lanes to move more people faster with the same number of buses. Specific corridors: North Washington Street, the northern half of Mass...

    Mixed-Use Washington @ Walnut | Newtonville

Grade separated cycle tracks are a big deal, but parking (or planter) separated cycle tracks, not so much. New vertical elements can be placed between the moving vehicles and the cycle track, as long as they are made or located in such a way to allow water to drain, the roadway can stay as it...

Alexandra Hotel Renovation | 1769 Washington St | Roxbury

Re: Alexandra Hotel Well, I do my best to stay far away from both. Apologies if you were offended by me lumping them as one and the same; but I refuse to learn enough about either to differentiate.

Alexandra Hotel Renovation | 1769 Washington St | Roxbury

Re: Alexandra Hotel My sincere apologies to any and all scientists for my unbelievably boneheaded writing. It was truly unfair, and never my intention, to compare scientists to those who follow the teachings of Mary Baker Eddy and L. Ron Hubbard.

Alexandra Hotel Renovation | 1769 Washington St | Roxbury

Re: Alexandra Hotel Wish that they would use eminent domain for derelict and abandoned buildings where the building owner either can't or won't do anything with the building, but they don't seem to use it these days. Although with the Christian Scientists now owning the Alexandra, it would...

    Citgo Sign

Yeah, and as nostalgic as I can be about it, it just isn't the same. It's a disneyland version of the old neon sign that I can only really enjoy at a glance. If I spend too much time watching the lights, I miss the more vibrant color of neon and old light patterns. Kenmore Square is long...

Boston Properties Office Tower | 888 Boylston Street | Back Bay

Bike parking on the new plaza - 16 oddly shaped racks (not sure if a mini U-lock will fit through these) with a rough surface designed to scratch a bikes finish. These replace the roughly 100 bike parking spaces that were here before this project started. A well earned LEED point for Boston...

    Casey Overpass

It's a state owned (MassDOT) overpass. Mahty has no authority over it. He learned to stay away from Casey during the last election cycle after initially supporting those asking for a new overpass and it's likely he will stay away from Bowker as well. We may think that supporting the removal...

    Casey Overpass

Tear. Bowker. Down. Yes, I know that MassDOT is nearing (hopefully) the end of a series of separate projects over the last ten-years to repair Bowker and adjacent spans. But this is really the type of major civic improvement that the City needs for 2030. It's past time to undo the damage from...

Hood Business Park | 480-570 Rutherford Avenue | Charlestown

Hood Business Park is an odd place, I worked there for a short while many years ago - 90%+ of my coworkers drove to work. The area seems to be the location to be if you want a Boston address and still be able to easily drive without actually having to go into Boston. I certainly hope that when...

    Biking in Boston

Flex Posts on Beacon! Meanwhile DCR has been upgrading the bike and ped paths along Memorial Drive, too bad they couldn't figure out how to keep a pathway open during construction... they had sidewalk closed signs west of Mass Ave.

Northern Avenue Bridge Fort Point Channel

Whiggy, I agree with you about Dot Ave. But olde Northern Ave absolutely not. I suspect Vertex and other companies knew that the existing bridge couldn't handle cars anymore and yet they still built there. And besides, if the highly profitable corporations along olde Northern Ave thought...

Northern Avenue Bridge Fort Point Channel

What's wrong about a street over water for people who are not in cars? for people in cars it's just not very useful. For people on foot it offers great connections; for people on bikes it has an opportunity (if Boston ever builds some separated bike facilities on Atlantic) to offer a great...

Northern Avenue Bridge Fort Point Channel

What possible need is there to drive a car over this? Absolutely none; the Moakley handles cars just fine- it's a highway bridge after all. Reserve this bridge for people on foot, people on bikes and add some amenities such as shops, an eatery or two and exhibits about the different types of...
