Boylston West @ Fenway Triangle (Van Ness) | 1325 Boylston Street | Fenway

Re: Developer plans $300M project for Fenway I've lived pretty close to the urban core of my southern city for decades. I used to think of myself as middle class, but now I think I'm poor, though I'm still hanging on while the yuppies move in dressed in lycra. Am I part of the national epidemic...

^ Nice idea, but what trees would you put them under? Aren't the the trees really sculptural landscape elements to be looked at from afar --as from a moving car? Artistic compositions growing out of shrubbery. Many places, you can't even get under the trees. Office-park landscaping.

The tourist rationale is naive, though it's real and takes care of itself. Pay no mind to it. The tourists stumble upon Haymarket and recognize an authentic manifestation of place (not imagineered). They take it home with them in their minds, even if they don't buy a bag of oranges. The real...

Hope Haymarket pushcart market survives all this. It's mostly not local produce, but it serves recent immigrants and poor folk with dirt-cheap products passed over by supermarkets at the wholesale level. You may get a few bad apples, but it's still more than worth it if you're not a middle class...

Suffolk Dorms / Modern Theatre | Washington St | Downtown Crossing

Re: Suffolk Dorms / Modern Theatre It's the one jarring note. Modernism says a new part of a building has to stand out. You can stand out in a packed elevator by farting.
