    Biking in Boston

Here's a plan from Northeastern to put bike lanes on the very constrained part of Longwood Ave through the Longwood Medical Area: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rzqrHcMTliw Can't say that I love it, but it's probably the best that can be done while still keeping two-way traffic moving along...

    Crazy Transit Pitches

MASCO is pitching a long-term grade separation plan for Longwood Ave: Hopefully we get more details beyond this blurry slide. It looks like they are proposing a walking and biking deck over the top of the existing road, a bus tunnel built into existing buildings alongside, and rail in a...

Boston also posted a great page about their experiences with separated bike lanes so far, focusing on winter maintenance: https://www.boston.gov/news/how-were-using-separated-bike-lanes-winter Small differences between Beacon Street and Mass Ave are being tested against each other, such as...

BTD is pulling the flex posts from the Mass Abe bike lane due to the snow storm. They say they will be reinstalled, but it's unclear whether they mean after the snow from this storm is cleared or if they're gone until Spring...

    Public Use Heliport

I just don't see how it's that much faster to drive to a helipad, take the helicopter to Hanscom and then get on a private jet. Driving to Signature Flight Support at Logan is like ten minutes in moderate traffic and then the executrons can get on the private jet directly.

The Boston Cyclists Union has a write-up of the four options for Inman Square: http://bostoncyclistsunion.org/uncategorized/a-better-solution-for-inman-square/ I think that "Bend Cambridge" does the best job of giving today's cyclists a better trip through Inman. Most bike traffic is...

    Biking in Boston

Brookline ruled out having any bike lane treatments on Babcock Street after two years of meetings. The design alternatives over the years included everything from basic painted bike lane to Danish-style separated bike lanes in each direction to a total reimagining of the street that made it...

Neat chart, I guess the ticks at the decade marks are census workers? I also think I can spot when LBJ launched the War on Poverty (and deepened the War on Southeast Asia) and when Carter took over.

    Route 1 Northside Developments

I'm glad that they're keeping the cactus while still getting more use out of that land. The Route 1 corridor needs some sort of cultural overlay district to encourage developers to put giant things out front, or to make their buildings look like giant things.

If a property manager within a traditional bike share service area is setting up a service like Zagster, they're targeting the out-and-back users running errands or going for a recreational ride. I think the capital costs are cheaper than paying for Hubway to set up a dock and bikes. Speaking...

Winthrop Center | 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

Re: 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District It could also mean a rebuild of Columbia Road between Franklin Park and JFK U/Mass, the never-built section of the Emerald Necklace. It's been on the city's wishlist for years and they keep attaching it to other initiatives like Boston 2024 and...

The Whitney Hotel (née John Jeffries House) | 142-170 Charles Street | Beacon Hill

The John Jeffries House, an affordable hotel right next to MGH and Beacon Hill, was sold last summer to a developer that also bought the adjacent parking garage. No public word on what they are planning, but "conversations" with the community will begin within the next month. The Guardian has an...
