I'm pretty sure it has to come down for One Congress to go up. Looking at the renders, the tower extends to the existing sidewalk on Congress Street. I've been thinking about asking someone in the lobby if there is a timetable for closure, which would give us some perspective on demolition...

Construction elevator? I work nearby, and you can see the elevator come out of the steel framing once it gets above the podium.

You can always block him instead of spewing vitriol and further derailing the thread; that's what I did recently, and it's done wonders for my blood pressure. Half the time his comments are ambiguous and/or incoherent...you shouldn't even attempt to try and understand him.

The side of Portal Park closest to the Hub is completely dug up..including the trees. Staging for office tower construction perhaps? Sad to lose those trees, particularly if they keep those on the other side of Bobby Orr. The loss of symmetry will aggravate my anal retentiveness :P

^It's a policy (not even written policy), and the BPDA administers it. The Pru and State Street pre-dated the policy I believe. All decisions are made on a case-by-case basis.

I'm curious about the timing of the office phase - they appear to be installing some type of metal sheathing around the perimeter of the existing mechanical penthouse over the podium. It looks like something that would be done if work was not to commence in the near term. We will have to wait...
