Portland, ME - New Construction Continued

It seems that Portland's downtown office sector continues its post-covid rebound. https://www.mainebiz.biz/article/a-bangor-engineering-firm-expands-its-portland-footprint-with-move The article states that 12 Mountfort Street (the Covetrus building) is now almost fully leased to multiple...

    Portland International Jetport | PWM

Frontier is bringing back PWM-TPA. Looks like 2x weekly starting the first week of December. Frontier is also returning to BTV after ~2 years This is definitely a retaliation against Breeze's expansion.

    Thompson's Point, Portland

Way too much parking overall, but a nice design and it’s good to finally see housing at the Point! The only way that much parking could be justified is if it's also going to serve the future phases on Lots 4 and 5 on their campus plan. Thompsons Point is sitting on gold right now. Since their...

Skyline & Aerial photos | Portland

Look....if Oklahoma City can have the tallest building in the country ( https://www.npr.org/2024/06/08/nx-s1-4996350/1907-foot-legends-tower-oklahoma-city-tallest-building#:~:text=Plans%20are%20moving%20forward%20in%20Oklahoma ) Then Portland can have the tallest building in New England... Sorry...

Roux Institute Campus Development | Portland

A lot of Portland actually does have the population density and land use to support high-frequency bus transit (15 minutes or better) and there's a lot of evidence from other cities and transit systems that if you make transit good and frequent and speedy then ridership will grow basically...

Roux Institute Campus Development | Portland

We could shorten that time even more if... instead of on-site parking... Roux gave all students a new Trek Madone and some lycra :p (would probably be more cost effective in the long run) My understanding is METRO is considering extending Route 5 to the Campus which could also bring more...

    General Portland Discussion

That parcel is zoned for 105 ft. They could request a height increase similar to the process for 201 Federal Also the first floor of any new buildings will likely need to be a few feet above the street level to meet flooding standards.

    General Portland Discussion

it looks like the last legacy industrial site in Bayside is finally going away. The E. Perry scrap yard block bounded by Pearl, Kennebec and Lancaster Streets has been sold to a familiar name ;)

Infill and Small Developments | Portland

My personal preference / fantasy would be to keep the Franklin corridor wide enough to easily enable future transit projects, be it BRT or light rail. I don't want unnecessary road lanes but I also don't want to see the corridor needlessly constrained. There are absolutely positive factors to...

165 Washington Ave | Northern Burner Supply Redevelopment | Portland

"Citizens in Support of the Eastern Promenade" (Not sure if that's an official name or not) has been collecting signatures trying to get a 45 ft height restriction put in place for this portion of Washington Ave. including the Northern Burner parcel. They've been out in force collecting...

Infill and Small Developments | Portland

My understanding is that MEDoT is completely unwilling to accept any significant lane reduction from Exit 7 to Cumberland but is supportive of the City’s plan to narrow the road to 2-lanes from Cumberland to Commercial plus create bi-directional separated bike lanes all the way across the peninsula.

    USM | Portland

It looks like USM is really investing in their new graduate center in the Old Port by leasing almost the entirety of the former CIEE building. They now have almost 170,000 SF of space in that building and have the option to purchase. It seems like they’re also investing quite a bit in renovating...

    Portland Passenger Rail

If I had an unlimited budget and dictatorial powers that would make Kim-Jong-Un look like a gentile community organizer by comparison....I would do this... Rebuild a new Union Station at its original location, and then from there send trains up the Union Branch to enter a new tunnel bringing...

    Portland Passenger Rail

A 750 Sq. ft waiting area is so absurdly tiny that I thought it was a typo when I first saw it...That's about the size of a two-bedroom apartment... As far as I can tell the proposed waiting area is actually smaller than those in Wells and Saco. have no idea what NNEPRA is thinking. This station...

Roux Institute Campus Development | Portland

Looks like construction equipment is moving into the site. During their Public Hearing the Roux team stated that their intention was to break ground in early September. Seems like they’re on course to meet at target.

    Portland International Jetport | PWM

PWM-TPA has actually been a very well performing route for Breeze with loads consistently above 85%. Nice to see more lift to that area. I’m thinking VRB might be in the works too I’m also pleasantly surprised to see that RDU has gone year-round. I had assumed it was a seasonal route.

    South Portland, Maine

Taking the Roux Institute strategy. Start with a taller height and then "compromise" down to the height you -really- wanted to build to. :)

    Portland International Jetport | PWM

WN recently opened a crew base at BNA and they've been scaling up operations there. I wouldn't be surprised if it comes back as a full daily next year and maybe potentially go year-round at some point.

Abruptly cutting summer seasonal routes in early August isn’t really a good sign.
