Movie Studios: Boston is the new Hollywood.

Am I missing something? WHERE does it say they are entitled to credits for all expenses paid while filming in Massachusetts. As far as I can tell, it amounts to 25% CREDIT for all TAXES owed to the state, i.e. salaries, room taxes, sales taxes, etc. It does not look to me as though The...

    Millennium Tower (Filene's) | 426 Washington Street | Downtown

Re: Filene's I think it actually looked better before they moved the fence: It was more defined and less vacant-looking.

Are you seriously suggesting that the state has to make up the difference with salaries? I don't think so. I think you're way off the mark here.

45 Province St | Downtown Crossing

Re: 45 Province St I think I'll have to stand by ablarc on this one. The original renderings showed the balconies in a much more pronounced way giving the building a more unique, Moderne look. At the present, the balconies look like an unfulfilled afterthought.

Bulfinch Crossing | Congress Street Garage | West End

Re: Congress Street Garage Development I don't think we know yet what exactly the proposed buildings will look like. If you look carefully at the perspective, you will note that the Garden Development buildings appear larger because they are at closer range.

    The Clarendon

Ah, it's those white mullions that bother me the most about this building. Try to picture the facade without all that white, and it looks much better. If they had to go this route, why didn't they use black instead of glaring white?

Right, Ron. That looks to be the Koch Institute Building at MIT. I'm pretty sure.

Canopy by Hilton (née Haymarket Hotel) | Blackstone St | Parcel 9 | Greenway

Re: Parcel 9 - The Greenway "Sucker" is right! I detest this. It somehow manages to be both bland and offensive at the same time. This is one that definitely needs to go back to the drawing board. It's an area that demands some decent HEIGHT!

Boston VS Minneapolis (Split from Fan Pier Thread)

Perhaps it's because a city's skyline is the first impression of a city that most people get. It's dramatic, more or less, and I don't have any problem dicussing their merits or disappointments. Some of us are very visually oriented, and first impressions are often lasting. I do not find...

Bulfinch Crossing | Congress Street Garage | West End

Re: Congress Street Garage Development And what we could get is pretty damned good. I really appreciate the renderings designed to show mere massing. There's a real street wall created here. And, of course, we need to learn how to better work with developers to get what we...

Boston VS Minneapolis (Split from Fan Pier Thread)

Re: Fan Pier Really? I questioned this statement, so I looked it up. Minneapolis has eight buildings exceeding 500 feet with another one proposed. By contrast, Boston has sixteen building above 500 feet, with another seven in proposal. I do, however like the Minneapolis skyline. Even...

Bulfinch Crossing | Congress Street Garage | West End

Re: Congress Street Garage Development How does anyone figure there were more rapid transit lines? The Orange Line didn't go as far as Oak Grove, the Red Line ended at Harvard, and it's other terminus was in Ashmont without the option to go to Quincy or Braintree. I realize there were more...

Bulfinch Crossing | Congress Street Garage | West End

Re: Congress Street Garage Development When the city contained 200,000 more people, the trains were shorter, and there weren't as many lines, so claiming that this project would put a burden on the public transportaion system seems very ingenuous.

Six thousand seems about right to me. I even read that figure somewhere in the not-too-distant past.
