Welcome to Boston, not perfect but...NOT BAD AT ALL (from the Clarendon Thread)

Nothing compares to New York. Boston belongs on that short list of second- tier cities that also includes Los Angeles, Chicago, maybe Washington D.C., and maybe San Francisco. San Francisco has great vistas, but up close, it often seems shallow and somewhat seedy. I love it, but it seems...

[ARCHIVED] Harbor Garage Redevelopment | 70 East India Row | Waterfront | Downtown

Re: New tower at Aquarium parking garage. It's bold and daring, and I don't have a problem with its height, however, it still needs modification and refinement. Those massive amounts of terra cotta, truly visible on the sidewalls from certain perspectives, need to be re-thought, for one...

Atlantic Wharf (née Russia Wharf) | Atlantic Ave | Waterfront

Re: Russia Wharf Does anyone actually know where the original bones of this icon came from? If memory serves me correctly, (it often doesn't) I think it was salvaged from the Attleboro/Taunton area. Another exists in New Bedford, on Ashley Boulevard, I think. The names "Sanky" and "Frates"...

    Rose Kennedy Greenway

Yes, it does sound a bit silly.....BUT, it also sounds delightful. If there's anything Boston lacks, it's a true sense of the whimsical, and this idea would fill the bill. I'm all for it.

[ARCHIVED] Harbor Garage Redevelopment | 70 East India Row | Waterfront | Downtown

Re: New tower at Aquarium parking garage. The SST is to reach a height of about 621 feet. It was reduced from the original height of over 700 feet, I believe, due to concerns about flight paths and for other reasons. My point is that if 625 feet is safe for this area, why should anyone be...

[ARCHIVED] Harbor Garage Redevelopment | 70 East India Row | Waterfront | Downtown

Re: New tower at Aquarium parking garage. I don't think the issue here is so much proximity, but rather the alignment of the flight paths. Rosslyn is in a direct line with flight paths in D.C.

Re: New BU Tower Come on. Try to see the bigger picture. Your predecessors had a hand in enabling you to receive your education, and you should do be willing to demonstrate some gratitude by doing the same for future generations.

    Millennium Tower (Filene's) | 426 Washington Street | Downtown

Re: Filene's The site demands something big and iconic. I've heard rumors for years that the developers were trying to entice Harrod's, even ofering them a fifteen-year lease with the first ten years for free. If only this could really happen. Then you would really see the rebirth of New...

Right you are!.....but, that hideous GSA/federal building would have to go. That takes my nomination for the worst/ugliest building in Boston, bar none!

You bet. It's been far too long in that condition, and I am sick of having to look at that gaping cavity.

You are absolutely correct with that last statement. Why do you think most all new schools are built as one-story affairs spread out over far too many acres?

Re: New tower at Aquarium parking garage. Wow! Enacting such rigid conformation will not produce anything valuable or interesting. It certainly wouldn't be of any interest to me.

    Cambridge Crossing (NorthPoint) | East Cambridge/Charlestown | Cambridge/Boston

Re: NorthPoint Cambridge (The one that was train yards, the big plan.) That park looks very bleak and anti-urban to me. I hope future plans include building upon some of this no-man's-land.
