Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

Those cuts look pretty rough on the exposed "arm rest". Shocked if someone doesn't get cut up on it.

Let's not forget about the trolley overhaul project either, that pops up every few years to be reminded it is what - almost a decade behind schedule at this point?

Acela & Amtrak NEC (HSR BOS-NYP-WAS and branches only)

I would assume Alstom and Amtrak have done extensive testing of the aerodynamics of the Acela II, given that it's designed for a max speed of 220mph w/o tilting. Certainly doesn't look great, though.

Lyrik Back Bay | 1001 Boylston Street (Parcel 12) | Back Bay

The reality is neither is going to happen any time soon, and most likely not this cycle. For Parcel 11, the partners turned on each other - no idea the current state of the lawsuits and it seems to have permanently fallen apart and is officially cancelled. For Parcel 13, the city gave it to...

    Wildlife Crossings

I can arrest I've had deer in my yard in Dot multiple times over the years, along with tons of rabbits, coyotes, trash pandas, skunks, etc. no turkeys, but ton of those in the streets in Dot, Rozzie, Hyde Park, Milton, etc. There was just a beaver lost in lower mills a few weeks ago.

MBTA "Transformation" (Green Line, Red Line, & Orange Line Transformation Projects)

Correct, at least at the last meetings I attended they were talking about redoing Ashmont to be a cross platform transfer. As for timed transfers: I promise I am not going to fly into a rant here, but, yes. At least inbound in the morning and outbound in the afternoon+night. It really, really...

MBTA "Transformation" (Green Line, Red Line, & Orange Line Transformation Projects)

Whoa. First ridership recovery is terrible at both. That said, I would be interested in why Valley Road is 2x Milton and Capen also pretty high. Are they making it ADA compliant finally? I thought it that was waved due to the entrance being rather impossible to make ADA compliant? Again, I'd...

MBTA "Transformation" (Green Line, Red Line, & Orange Line Transformation Projects)

Station stop consolidation has been discussed in the past here, but for me at least, as a daily rider pre-pandemic, not sure I see it. Cedar Grove: Yeah, really close to Ashmont. Annoyingly so. I generally used Cedar Grove and the old can't get there from here applies: if they added a...

Other People's Rail: Amtrak, commuter rail, rapid transit news & views outside New England

I also don't get the USPS angle, either. Franklin is rolling in his grave.

    General Infrastructure

Well, as all things Mayor Curley, I am pretty sure he was serious - I mean who wouldn't want to use flamethrowers to remove snow. For completeness, here is MIT's response, which I think is equally as amusing: https://alum.mit.edu/slice/1948-mit-president-mayor-try-salt

Snow removal in Boston is an age old question for the fine folks over at MIT.

MBTA Commuter Rail (Operations, Keolis, & Short Term)

Maybe I missed something, but why is adding a simple turn back track at all controversial?

    General Infrastructure

Yeah... I've been not wanting to comment on it on say the Pike Straightening thread, but.... there is a very real chance the feds pull funding for all of this stuff at this point.

Why did we stop building through-streets?

It's simple: it is more attractive to buyers and homeowners to be on a dead end or cul-de-sac, and is intentionally done to limit or really eliminate any through traffic on the street. It is also more economic for developers to build them, so adding that all up: it makes houses and land more...

MBTA Commuter Rail (Operations, Keolis, & Short Term)

I'd throw finally wrapping up the Franklin double tracking in there just because it's already so annoying close.

MBTA Commuter Rail (Operations, Keolis, & Short Term)

Would Milford be a +1 (or +2) on Franklin? I know the T recently bought the track out to at least Bellingham, but, I thought the most recent ridership study didn't look great. I'd think they'd also need to do something about the Franklin -> Forge park stretch as, from what I understand, that...

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

Ugh, I see they took a page out of the Ashmont Design book with the annoying gap between the Trolley and Station proper.

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

Yeah. Or even just get some solar lights and skip any wiring and install those.... gotta be cheaper than $600k.

AFAIK, all the subway and green line rail is continuously welded and has been for a long time now.
